Cam Warren: The Kid Can Play

Warren had 5 catches for 70 yards in the scrimmage. Pound for pound and inch for inch, he may be the best player on the team. Of course, he doesn't have many pounds or inches. He's listed on roster at 5'6", 160 (gogriz.com). He has terrific hands, runs good routes, gets open, makes good catches, and can go up for the ball. He had a nice 9 yard end around in the scrimmage, where he had to reverse field to make any yardage. He made his catches early in the scrimmage. The qb's seemed to be looking for him.

Here's what coach Delaney said about Warren in today's Missoulian:

"I'll go to war with Cam Warren every single day. He's a tough guy, he plays hard, he's smart, and he makes big plays. You talk about guys who have to battle for playing time, and he's doing that. And he's going to play."

Warren was a teammate of Peter Nguyen at Bellevue High near Seattle. John Kanongata's played for Bellevue, as did Nguyen's brother David. David made some plays in the scrimmage. I think he started for Western (in Dillon) last fall.

I usually get out to see Bellevue play once or twice a year. JP and the Nguyen brothers were impressive to watch, but I have to admit that I don't remember much of Warren on the field. Then again, Bellevue runs a wing T offense and doesn't air the ball out a great deal. I sure like what I hear/read about Warren at UM. It sounds as though he's constantly busting his rear to get better and it's paying off for him. I will be rooting for his continued success.

I believe Warren played qb and db in high school. Judging by his one run in the scrimmage, it looks like he can run.

well that's saying a lot

Cam was a team captain and all-league selection at Safety his senior year. He also split time at Quarterback with now Tufts (D3) starting Cornerback, Tommy Castle. Cam was actually used when Bellevue ran their version of the spread. He had a good arm and made some ridiculous plays with his feet. He is very well known around the Bellevue area for being one of the more cerebral, quick and overall best football players. He has 3 older brothers who were all captains at Bellevue. His brother Nick went on to start at linebacker for Western Washington from 2004-2006. His oldest brother Wes is the Defensive line coach at Montana Western and was the D-Coordinator at Bellevue from 2005-2009....makes sense why Western has signed multiple Bellevue players in the past 3 years.

David Nguyen was an all-league selection at Safety for Montana Western in 2009. He then red shirted last season and is now able to play. Crazy thing is that David never even played defense at Bellevue. He was one of the states top RBs and was viewed as an emergency DB (Bellevue's DBs consisted of 3 d1 and 1 d2 players.)

Kanongataa's brother David, played LB at Montana Western for Cam's brother in 2009. He then transferred to Central Washington.
