Cal Poly

UCLA is the USC of basketball...the talent level is greater than the coaching....they have struggled in every game but one this year. I think the best team in this area is Cal State Northridge...when they are good they are really good....We will get a chance to see if the Griz are good or just the best of the Big Sky this week.

Howland will get them there. Keep in mind he has taken his teams to 3 straight Final Fours too, that doesn't happen by luck

He is lucky to be at the school of choice for many of the nation's best players who, in spite of him, choose UCLA, for more reasons than most people are aware of. The best game for UCLA will be vs. Cal State Northridge this week. From all reports here, Howland is in a make or break year....UCLA is the "cadillac" as they say on egriz. He has the tools, the track, and everything else but has managed to lose to Cal Poly, Montana, Northridge, and a host of schools that shows how badly he gets his message across to players. UCLA has really struggled this year and Northridge will be the toughest team at 6-1..and CSN is a team of thrown togethers for the season...their coach, like UM's is excellent..Howland, lots of people here would argue with you...

yeah, UCLA fans are not pleased. Same thing two years ago when I showed two neighbor Bruin fans a picture of Will Cherry & the Griz. Their response was "that's nice" before the game.

After another not so surprising disgraceful loss at Pauley a pathetic Ben Howland threw his players under the bus. BruinSportsReport has the video of Ben Howland after tonight's disgraceful loss against Cal Poly. It's predictable as a dejected and pathetic looking Howland threw his players under the bus. WATCH:

Bruin Bites: Fire Ben Howland and Chianti Dan Edition - Nov 26, 5:30a

Monday morning, but rather than do the usual variety of bits and pieces of news from around the UCLA-iverse, Bruins Nation takes a long look at the toxic feeling surrounding Ben Howland's dumpster fire basketball program after UCLA's loss to fourth-rate joke program Cal Poly at Pauley Pavilion
Unbelievable. That's the only way to describe how UCLA, with the top recruiting class in the country, with a projected top-three lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, managed to lose to a unheralded, unranked, afterthought fourth-rate that only began playing Division I basketball in 1994 (and with zero post-season success). To put this in perspective, imagine what the reaction would be if Alabama lost to Southern Miss (0-12), Kansas (1-10), Colorado (1-11), or hell, some joke Division I-AA program like Idaho State (1-11). Imagine the fallout if Manchester United, or Real Madrid, or Juventus lost to the Los Angeles Blues (of the USL Professional Division, our third tier league, two steps removed from MLS). Let that sink in. Inexcusable. Not just the loss, but the fact that Chianti Dan has allowed Ben Howland to remain in his job prior to this season, despite the fact that Howland is the only UCLA coach to preside over three consecutive double-digit losing seasons since Wilbur Johns in the 1940s. Oh, and don't forget that he's missed the tournament more often than Steve Lavin did. Yes, that's right: Howland's track record is pathetically on par with frauds like Steve Lavin. Bear in mind that it was only last season that Howland's pathetic dumpster fire trainwreck program was snubbed by the NIT. Yes, Coach's program, the once-proud definition of success in college basketball was snubbed by a second-tier loser's tournament. Yet, people wanted to hold on to the hope that Howland would magically turn it around with a roster of one-and-done mercenaries from the AAU circuit. And yet, here we are, the Monday after one of the most pathetic losses to one of the most pathetic opponents UCLA has ever faced.

"as they say on egriz"...now that gives your post almost zero cred :thumb:

I'm sure Cal Poly loves being referred to as a "fourth-rate joke program." Ah, the snobbery of "big time" college athletics. Actually, IMO, it's pretty funny that UCLA lost to that "fourth-rate joke program."

The UCLA fans and LA press made similar comments about Montana two years ago.

as the game clock winds down to zero (aka heat-of-the-battle emotional fan posts)

"How exciting!!! We might take this team to OT"

"with that recruting class, how do you have a team that is this bad? "

"coaching or lack thereof"

"We're going to lose this game and nothing is going to be done about it. Business will go on as usual."

"This is such a f#*&ing joke Ben Howland should be fired tonight, win or lose. Get the f#*& out of Westwood."

I think you are prone to hysteria...I was at that game, on a rainy night, when Quvale (?) played his heart out the UM shone with coaching. In fact, all of the UCLA friends I have wish they had had a coach like Tinkle and wondered why he was not given national attention. They found it EQUALLY amazing that Howland was once THE go to coach in the Big Sky. There was one small article in the media that expressed deep concern about losing to Montana, but most press and talking heads knew a good team that was working on all cylinders that night against a team that was not prepared....Howland's teams seem to have that happen a lot...few here denigrated UM..that is the product of a paranoid pov.

Then, why did you write what you did? You seem to know less about California "press and talking heads" than they know about Montana.
