Cal Poly Week

Obviously …….. the game …… last ……. year between the ……. same two ….. teams …. with the same offenses ……. and same head coaches ……..is relevant ………. to this years game. Why the hell would anyone nitpick at that if not trolling? You know this bastard is sending signals to a tairist cell with them dots.

I have.....asthma....

In 1993 the Griz lost to Delaware 49-48 in the playoffs during the coldest game i ever saw at at home. Their triple option looked like we never saw one before. After Read was embarrassed, we learned how to stop the option. In fact, we crushed teams that brought it in for many years. I am not a great mind for defense, but what was required goes like this. Our defensive line takes out as many blockers as it can. Safeties and corners seal the sideline and turn the play inside. Line blockers make the tackles. What was most important was that the defensive line does not try to tackle, but puts down their blockers. Corner and safety on the other side of the field check for the reverse. The big problem can be the quarterback is a great passer. Last Saturday's game did not show me a great passer. We have great defensive speed, but if everybody tries to make the tackle we will be in big trouble. Take out their blockers! Buss may have enough speed to get the ball carrier from behind. However, CP is a fast team. And they seem to prefer the options to their right.

Was there and great game, one of the best ---except. Yes we couldn't stop their run but they couldn't stop the pass.

Read many similar comments about Cal Poly prior to last year's game, then CP barely beat us, went on to lose four of their next five conference games (including to MSU 45-28), and ended their season 4-7 overall, and 3-5 conference.

75, you see the bolded part? The commentary that you added about how Poly fared after playing UM? I asked what that has to do with the Poly game this week. How is it relevant? I am asking you to expand upon past stats that you introduced into the discussion. You specifically noted the MSU result, why?

Given that most teams have played only 3 games this season, why wouldn't you look at the games this season and the games last season, including the game CP played UM last season. And look at the opponents and stats this year, as well as last. And look at personnel changes.

No team or opponent or game is ever exactly the same, but who cares. There is only so much information available to analyze and make comparisons. Why wouldn't you use all of it, and perhaps focus more on stuff some than on other stuff?

I often have no clue as to what you are talking about, and this is one of those times. It seems to me that you are spewing nonsense.

What the hell is wrong with you jackasses? Knock it off or there will be a few of you spending considerable time down at the end of the bench. People are sick and tired of your crap.

Obviously the Cal Poly style of option football can be stopped -- because it has been. Otherwise, everyone would run it (having recruited the right players). As it happened, we watched a lot of the game CP-SDSU game ... because it was a good game and and because CP was the next opponent for the Griz.

But first: No, I never "played the game." Not at the college level ... nor did I make a regular team at the HS level. But I did play the game (practice/scrimmage) into high school -- wide receiver, D end and kicker in 6/8/11-man football. All that being said, I have been observing, and trying to learn about, football for well over a half century.

So, for what it's worth ... defending the CP option is about playing assignment football, a modicum of quickness, and the defenders having confidence that their teammates will also execute their assignments. Sometimes, the blocking schemes of the option can overwhelm the defenders at the point of attack ... but even that can be stopped (held to a short gain) if the defenders play off the blocks properly and their teammates close quickly and intelligently. And a strategically-timed defensive stunt can totally screw the option, which is generally not good at overcoming big losses. Also, what we saw in the SDSU game was (too-often) man-coverage pass defenders losing confidence in the D front and cheating inside too soon -- allowing an easy completion. Clearly, defending the option is not rocket science or, as I said, everyone would play it and they'd win all kinds of championships (which has not happened, so far).

He gave scores and record. No stats, no mention of personnel. So even by your statement, incomplete.

All I did was ask 75 to expand on his post. He is the one that went off the rails.

Isn't there supposed to be a hotties thread? Isn't that why we keep Poly, Davis, and Sac State around?

Just saying.
I'm with him. I'm old (very), but not so old I don't enjoy looking at pics of young ladies who are easy on the eyes. With all due respect to female scholar-athletes, etc, of course. And what with Title IX, there should also be a male-hotties thread. Maybe you can find some male collegiate wrestlers -- although T-IX pretty well killed that -- or gymnasts. They always look ripped. (Yes, there are ripped FB players, but the percentage is lower. :) )

Naturally, you keep it going. You lied about what I said, and tried to change the subject; just as you do on any thread I post to and which the moderators don't seem to have figured out yet. And after seven efforts to explain it to you, you still kept misrepresenting my point entirely. It is classic trolling; in both your alter ego forms; as usual, even tag-teaming.

75 Holla Holla Holla U R close to being.....Forget it. After 7 tries and he pretends to not get it? Move over and let the fat ladies wrestle.

After reading through this entire thread I now believe Montana will win. Why?
I lost my thought

I might have posted this somewhere else but one thing that is unusual for any DC going against the Triple Option is that the old adage of trying to make the offence one dimensional is out the window. They all ready are and they aren't changing. People are raving that Cal-Poly ran for 440 against SDSU but if you look at last years numbers that is only about 55 over their season average in a year they went 4-7. You can't really stop the Option but as many posters have stated the two-headed Kryptonite against it is keeping the ball out of their hands and making them chase a scoreboard. They can't hurry up and they can't throw 30 times a game.

Sask gets it.

Yes good post except Mr. Sask spells 'offense' with a Canadian c :)!

Here's a nifty solution; how about you "UMGriz75" and you "HelenaHandBasket" take a month off from posting anything. 30 days to take a deep breath and think about things. You can still follow Griz football and read all the posts you like. When you come back, just think football and post along those lines. It's a thought.

You know, I started a post on this thread with some general comments on Cal Poly evaluations last year vs Cal Poly evaluations this year. No attacks on anybody. Comments on the Griz and the nature of fan analysis. Then the terrible two did what they always do, invade a thread with irrelevant comments, red herrings, straw men, and ad hominem attacks. This silly game has been going on for over a year.

Since grizindabox aka helena handbasket insist on continuing derailments for their personal agenda -- cripes, last year they invaded basketball game threads to carry on his vendetta -- and I spent seven posts attempting to explain his error, explanations he refused to accept in favor of his outright lies about what I said, what do you think that kind of person intends? What do you think his purpose is? Trolling. That someone responds to it is hardly similar behavior or purpose; it took into account he may have really "misunderstood." HaHahaHaHa. Instead, caught on facts, he responded with gibberish, just to keep the trolling going.

What do you think the solution really is? That trolling should be rewarded? That is what you propose.
