Whew! I was deathly afraid we were going to have a football thread, but thank Jeebus, the usual suspects have come forward to give us a familiar pissing contest, this time replete with some kind of obsessive, psychosis induced dots, and the guy who can’t resist taking even the most idiotic bait responding … repeatedly. Shouldn’t they be given a padded room someplace where the two OCD patients can bore each other to death without taking everyone else to the morgue with them? Then, to bring us all home again, we get another genius adding the always welcome Cat bashing post. Take it awaaay.

The standard defense for the Triple O has long ago been worked out. There are no surprises and there is no need for a defensive genius. It relies on personnel and relentless discipline on every play which this defense seems, so far, to have in quantity. Where we’ll need some surprises, of course, is on offense, at least in terms of opening it up … if indeed that is really even possible to the extent necessary. I’m afraid the odds are against it improving that much.

Right back at you with your insults and undeserved sense of moral superiority.

My post was serious about the Cats being #3 - not an insult. EWU beat Wash State. Cats barely lose to Idaho. Wash State crushes Idaho. So, I am legitimately shocked that the Cats are #3. I would have thought EWU to be #3.

Thankfully this a message board and I definitely won't lose any sleep over your post.

Ummmm...I don't think you are considered one of the "usual suspects." They are well known here...you'll catch on in time unfortunately.

Oh, I know I'm not the usual suspect but I believe I'm the "genius" he was referring to in the part of his message that I put in bold.

I always hate watching the Griz play Cal Poly. The triple option, as effective as it is, always seems like a gimmick to me, you don't need a real QB to play it, you just need a RB who can maybe throw a little bit. They always seem to get 4 yards per carry and infuriate me. SDSU is a good team with a good defense, they face running teams all the time in their conference and still had no answer for poly. I hope to god the griz can come up with an answer and a win. Still waiting for our offense to look decent. They show flashes but we need some consistency and are going to have to outscore a good offense. I predict we will need 31 pts to beat Poly. Dear God please!!

The over looked advice of those "experts" on how stop the triple option, since it is rarely seen, is to practice defending it a little each week of spring and fall practice, and a little each week of the season. Something of a tough call with practice limitations. Our two week hiatus will allow us to get in some of that extra recommended practice.

for those of us unlucky enough to not live in Montana....does anyone know the streaming or TV options for this one? ESPN3 would be nice

My question still....stands.....how does Poly's performance.....last season.....relate to.....the Griz game.....this season.......no smack intended.....sheesh....guy asks....a football question....and people freak......sorry for bothering......75 with an.....actual.....football question......
It's hard to tell if you are just acting stupid, or its for real. I compared the eGriz commentary before each game, last year's and this year's, which oddly enough is quite similar in content. See that tricky ploy there. Cal Poly is using the SAME offense as they used "last year." Egrizzers are analyzing it in nearly the same terms that they used "last year." But, "last year" the predictions mostly proved untrue about this "offense," and it was curious to see that the same pattern of opinion as last year continues to guide opinion on the matter this year.

I know you can't tell the difference between "commentary on football" and "football," but why bury yet another thread with it? Or is it just too complicated for you? There, that's the third explanation for you. Got it yet?

Not really, no...

To be fair I didn't watch the game but I think they usually have a serviceable defense. Maybe not though...

You added your own commentary.....about how they fared.....after the Griz game.....especially noting their game....against Bozeman......and I asked......how that relates.....to Poly this season......

Couldn't agree more. I think one or two years Hauck would work on a little triple option each week to prepare. Worked pretty good then as I recall. Seeing as though we see Cal Poly often enough and there are a couple teams we could meet in the playoffs that run it or versions and variations of it it wouldn't be a bad idea to familiarize with it.

Well, I noted that given Cal Poly's history last year, it doesn't take a genius level offense to outscore them because their defense has not been so hot.

It happened plenty of times, despite the very high opinion offered for their offense last year. The Troll's opinion notwithstanding, past is often prologue, and unless Cal Poly has some identifiable advantage this year that they did not have last, and if Semore can continue what he seems able to do, then this should be another lower scorer for CP's offense. Our offense doesn't have to do that much in that case; compared to other offenses CP faced last year, a middling offensive effort on our part should win the game. Are the odds really against improvement for our offense? Couldn't say, but the outcome of the Cal Poly game will provide an important look at how this team is shaping up.

So let me get this correct 75. All defenses are equal, year in and year out, so comparing how Poly's offense did against teams last season, say MSU, is a barometer on how the Griz defense should be able to play against them?

On cue. And no, you're not correct. Far from it.

I think the Griz are looking better every week. I hope the bye week helps the Griz. That said, I wish we had the bye week later in the season.

Then again it might just be me having withdrawals because it was hard not having a Griz game last weekend.

So why did you bring up how Poly performed in their games after playing UM last season? And could you also explain to me why the Seattle Seahawks are 4-5 against the god-awful Rams over the past 4+ regular seasons and 45-17 against everyone else?

Wow, tag-team trolling. I am sure Payton will get right on it.

No trolling. I am asking you a serious question that you obviously seems to be avoiding. I guess the Hawks question is a little trolly, but if you know the answer, I am all ears.

I should have just.....stayed away......talking to 75.....is like.....I don't even know......I don't have daily.....interactions with someone like that......for comparison.....

Looking at the CP game stats from last year, UM should be in good position if the defense can repeat or improve on last year’s effort.

Hold CP to 20 points, with only 6 in the 2d half. Eliminate one big play--a 60 yard Chris Brown run. Hold CP to 380 yards of Total Offense, 330 rushing and 56 passing, and 4.3 average per play (maybe improve on that a bit). Get 1 turnover (and hopefully more). Make CP punt 7 times (maybe more). Try to improve on 8/23 of 3d down conversions (that’s not bad, tho) and improve on 4/6 4th down conversions. Get 2 sacks again. Get more UM offense, get more points, reduce picks (from 3), get more UM TOP.

CP was picked 9th in the conference in both the coaches and media polls. They appear to be playing much better than that.
