Cal Poly Week

I absolutely hate playing Cal-Poly. All of those four-yard runs, eating up field and clock. I've got a lot of confidence in our defense, but the Griz offense cannot use the hurry-up and go three and out against this team.
I typically don't care too much about TOP, but against Cal-Poly, we need to at least be close.

I always hate watching the Griz play Cal Poly. The triple option, as effective as it is, always seems like a gimmick to me, you don't need a real QB to play it, you just need a RB who can maybe throw a little bit. They always seem to get 4 yards per carry and infuriate me. SDSU is a good team with a good defense, they face running teams all the time in their conference and still had no answer for poly. I hope to god the griz can come up with an answer and a win. Still waiting for our offense to look decent. They show flashes but we need some consistency and are going to have to outscore a good offense. I predict we will need 31 pts to beat Poly. Dear God please!!

Not really, no...

Read many similar comments about Cal Poly prior to last year's game, then CP barely beat us, went on to lose four of their next five conference games (including to MSU 45-28), and ended their season 4-7 overall, and 3-5 conference.
So what....exactly.....does this have.....to do with......Poly week....this season......
On cue. See http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=74668

Reading many high-powered comments on egriz, made with great predictive authority, make interesting reading in hindsight. Especially when it comes to a team with a distinctive offense. The comments this year appear similar to the comments made last year about this distinctive offense. Unless Cal Poly has changed its offense, it is useful to reasonable people to see how that offense has fared in the past.

Until we master the space-time continuum, that happens to be the time reference metric called "last year."

I just didn't....see how.....Poly's record.....and how they did....against teams.....not named....Montana.....last season....meant anything about....Poly week....this season.....and that is.....because it doesn't.....mean anything....if you want to.....breakdown some gameplay......from the Griz-Poly game....from last season....then I would get it.....

Done it. Been there. Last year.

Here we go again. I am sure Payton will get right on it.

The dive absolutely killed us last year. We weren't too bad on the veer or pitch.

I think the folks around me thought I was absolutely nuts screaming to stop the f-ing dive.

Looking forward to a new DC to see if he can stop or limit the dive to 2-3 yards instead of 6.

Right on what.....exactly......me asking what any.....of your post....has to do with....the game this....week.....aren't you.....a little sensitive....how Poly did....against anyone not named.....Montana.....really doesn't provide.....much insight......but if you want to....breakdown how the.....Griz.....played Poly.....then I am interested.....and I don't mean stats....I mean.....X's.....and O's.....

But wait, you didn't think "last year" was relevant, now you do! The flexibility of an Olympic Gymnast!

Actually.....I said.....anything other than.....the Griz game.....from last year......isn't relevant.......reading is your......friend......

This won't stop the bickering, but #1 in the Big Sky is playing #2 in the Big Sky and #3 is playing #9. This is a great week to see how the Big Sky teams match-up. Also, PSU plays SUU and MSU plays UND.

Who's the Big Dawg in the Big Sky? We will soon see.

My specific comment was to compare last year's thread analyses regarding the upcoming Cal Poly game with this year's upcoming Cal Poly game, and to note how the outcome last year was considerably different than the analyses. That, indeed, a vaunted CP offense struggled against just about everybody last year, and that the Griz game was not the exception.

To make it clear to you, since it apparently isn't, Cal Poly is the same opponent discussed on both sets of threads and the we are the "Griz" being referred to on both sets of threads.

And had you read it, you would have understood that if fit your definition of "relevant" precisely. See how "reading" can make it clear to you?

It's not hard to tell that you are mindlessly trolling again. I am sure Payton will get right on it.

This is all so simple. If the Griz don't show some offense, they will lose to Cal Poly! If Gus sucks, try Chalich who is at least mobile and ads a wrinkle.

Last year's thread also emphasized how dangerous the "triple option" was and how formidable Cal Poly was with it. Turned out to be one of our lower offensive scoring opponents. And it didn't do much for CP in the Big Sky.

If Semore can do as good or better than last year's defense, and the consensus seems to be that he can, then this game should turn entirely on our offense.

Last year, Cal Poly's defense was middling to not-so-hot during the conference season. A decent offense, not a great offense, should still be able to win this. This is a test.

I guess....asking how a post.....relates specifically to this years.....game....is frowned upon......I guess the outcome.....for Saturday......will be determined....by how Poly played....MSU last year.....

I had to look up the rankings and I'm shocked that MSU is #3 in the conference. Shocked I tell ya!

My question still....stands.....how does Poly's performance.....last season.....relate to.....the Griz game.....this season.......no smack intended.....sheesh....guy asks....a football question....and people freak......sorry for bothering......75 with an.....actual.....football question......

Whew! I was deathly afraid we were going to have a football thread, but thank Jeebus, the usual suspects have come forward to give us a familiar pissing contest, this time replete with some kind of obsessive, psychosis induced dots, and the guy who can’t resist taking even the most idiotic bait responding … repeatedly. Shouldn’t they be given a padded room someplace where the two OCD patients can bore each other to death without taking everyone else to the morgue with them? Then, to bring us all home again, we get another genius adding the always welcome Cat bashing post. Take it awaaay.

The standard defense for the Triple O has long ago been worked out. There are no surprises and there is no need for a defensive genius. It relies on personnel and relentless discipline on every play which this defense seems, so far, to have in quantity. Where we’ll need some surprises, of course, is on offense, at least in terms of opening it up … if indeed that is really even possible to the extent necessary. I’m afraid the odds are against it improving that much.

Right back at you with your insults and undeserved sense of moral superiority.

My post was serious about the Cats being #3 - not an insult. EWU beat Wash State. Cats barely lose to Idaho. Wash State crushes Idaho. So, I am legitimately shocked that the Cats are #3. I would have thought EWU to be #3.

Thankfully I won't lose any sleep over your post.
