Cal Poly Likely Hiring Tim Skipper

Lots of scuttle online that Cal Poly is on the verge of hiring UCLA interim head coach Tim Skipper. He's coached on both sides of the ball at RB and LB mainly, and he has strong ties to California having worked at Sac State in the early 2000s, while also having two separate stints with Fresno State, including last year as the interim head coach. He coached at Florida for 4 years and was also DC at UNLV for 2 years. Looks like a decent hire for Poly. Doesn't hurt to try something different. I know they all wanted Troy Taylor, but that seemed unlikely.

I like it. Skipper has been an assistant head coach or interim head coach for a long time, it is good he is finally getting an opportunity. As far as Troy Taylor he had some good teams at Sac State but I am not sure Cal Poly would have been a good fit. It seems like his ties are mostly in Northern California, particularly the Sierra Foothill league around Sacramento. He was one of the best high school coaches of all time anywhere in the USA at Folsom High School. That program is still thriving to this day because of the foundation he laid.

The other thing too is that I know his players at UCLA really respect him and think highly of him. If he were able to pull a couple of those guys up the road to Poly with him, that could make a huge difference for them.

Yeah I know most of his team wanted UCLA to keep him as a permanent head coach.

Looks like it's all but official now. That leaves Weber and Portland State as the only two schools still searching. Can't believe how long it's taking Weber. They've had a month now.

This is a really good hire IMO, even better if he's able to get a few UCLA kids to follow him.

Troy Taylor does have some connections in Utah, if I'm Weber State I'm making a run at him and hoping he can replicate what he did at Sac State.

You’re not wrong, but both he and Weber have traditionally been so unlikable that it’s a match made in hell as a Griz fan.
