Cal Bears coach was just fired !!

Nebraska just fired their coach also. No idea if there is any tie between TD and Moos, but worth keeping an eye on.

Word in Iowa is Fred Hoiberg has that job. "The Mayor" last coached college in Ames for Iowa State before coaching the Bulls

Looks as if San Francisco's Kyle Smith will be the next coach at Washington State.

Hmmm....Klay Thompson has been pushing for him from the beginning....Sentiment down here is becoming almost unanimous that the Warriors should give Klay a max deal when his contract comes up for renewal at the end of this year....That would be about $190 million over five years...That's all on top of his last contract which paid him about $18 million a year for the past four years...Does money talk?....

But Smith is a very good coach. He did wonders at USF, which basically plays in a high school gym, and gains scant attention in a sports market dominated by the Warriors, Giants, A's, Niners, Raiders, Sharks, Earthquakes, Cal, Stanford, St. Mary's. The USF heyday of Bill Russell and K.C. Jones? That was 64 years ago! Not to return. As Smith surely knows.

So one Montana coach may leave because he is to good.
The other Montana coach may leave because she can't generate a winning team.

Is there any new news on the Lady Griz coaching scenario? Haven't heard anything lately.
When does her contract come up for renewal? Just curious.
I was hoping she would do great. injuries and lack of passion seem to be a killer.

Pretty sure all MT coach contracts run annually July 1 - June 30 to match the state's fiscal year.

FWIW, Travis DeCuire has two years left on his contract (he signed a new three-year deal after the 2017-18 season) as Griz head coach.

I have heard nothing about the Lady Griz coaching situation, though I believe Shannon Schweyen's current contract does expire on June 30, as she just completed her third season and have no recollection of her getting a new contract during her tenure.

If both coaches leave, it would mark the first time since the end of the 1977-78 seasons that both teams were looking for new head coaches.

Is it possible for private donors to augment DeCuire's salary? God knows, I could provide a list of Griz boosters who might be willing to step in.

Very, very interesting to see what they're saying. They -- some of them, anyway -- seem to "get" the key points: (1) he's been very successful as a HC, (2) TDC "knows" Cal-Berk and its culture, (3) Montana has a long history of prepping coaches for bigger and better things, and (4) he can and does recruit California, SoCal in particular, very well.

everybody should carefully remember . . . it is very common for coaches to interview for jobs they are potentially interested in and may want someday.
