bye bye larry k?

Why dont we wait and see what Lare does with his personal recruits and not Holst and Kenndy's. All this talk of how great a recruiter he is but we haven't seen one of his recruit play. I dont know how well he recruits but from what I have heard he communicates on the same level of a mute. I am not sure if I am reading some previous posts in the correct context but I think that Larro was compared to Rick Pitino, John Calipari, and Mike Montgomery???? I could maybe see comparing Andy Hill to these brilliant basketball minds but not Larree. Really what has he done? When you think about it the Griz did not have a good season until the Big Sky Playoffs where they turned it on and played well against Washington in Boise. Crisco isn't the Zenmaster that everyone wants to think he is and he wont be coaching under him anytime soon. How's he gonna coach the triangle when he doesn't have the capacity to know it himself?

One guy the Cats haven't got to see is 6'10 230 pound Ted Morris, who redshirted last year if I'm not mistaken. He is a transfer from Indiana State who is supposed to be pretty good. We'll see him on the floor next year.

Also, we had only one true center last season because Towsley was injured for most of the year, which forced Moss to play center sometimes. He should be able to play the 4 now with Beye/Morris switching in at center, where he is most comfortable.

Also Chawn Johnson is supposed to be the real deal, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing a little as a true freshman if he really impresses in camp.

But I agree, the 40 3 pointers a game has got to go. When you're on, you'll win 90% of the time. But if you aren't hitting, you have to be able to score in the paint and inside the 3 line, and we were unable to do that last year.

The Cats are will be much deeper at the 4 & 5 possition than the Griz next year. They return Moss, Pratt, Beye and Durr (although I hope Durr plays more three this year). 6-10 Morris comes off a red shirt year, he started as a true freshman at Indiana State. He has a rep as a banger and scorer. His week spots are his passing (this is a pretty big deal in the Bobcat offence) at this point. 6-8 240 Chawn Johnson could press for playing time, he will be the physical player the Cats have had since Plumber years ago. He does not have a lot of wide variety of offencive moves, but is very, very athletic, big and strong, and is still pretty young. I have been told by one assistant coach though that Braden Johnson could be the big surprised. At 6-8 220, he reminds of Griz Andrew Strait, but with a better 3 point shot. What B. Johnson give up to C. Johnson in athletism he more than makes up for it in his offencive skills. This MSU coach feels that B. Johnson was under recruited and could actually contribute earlier than C. Johnson who is a whole lot highly recruited (offered by Fresno St., Iowa State )

Also starting with last year the Cats have had a much better inside coaching presence with assistant Johnny Brown. The Cats will always shot the three, but the Cats are now also emphysizing the inside game now and are recruiting the horses to get it done.

While the Cats may be strong at 4/5, I think UM may be stronger than you think, even tho Kamar's graduation leaves a big hole. I think Seyfert may have a great year. is going to be a good player, is big and has soft hands, and hopefully can contribute right away. Strait has alot of talent and has put on some weight. The coaches are high on Hasquet. Chavez will hopefully be eligible and could have a good impact. Note that Chavez started some games as a true frosh. Kyle Sharp is also a 4 (and perhaps more), altho I assume he will redshirt.

On paper vrs reality.

On paper You lost a lot of depth (Easley, McKay, Farr, and Lynch) as well
as Davis and replaced most of them with freshmen, albeit a great class. The Griz depth
was so darn important last year, and it is really tough "on paper" to count on Freshman to
contribute.

Reality Unfortunately championships are not won on paper. I really like
what Krysco is doing, some time you can add by subtraction. Farr leaving may actually
help Mathews become a better player. I love Strait, he is an all conference player as is
Martin. Doughly could be. Criswell already is. Seyfert, though, I don't know. Has all
the talent to dominate almost everyone in the league, but is a head case. I actually think
he would be a better forward facing the basket than a center. Mathews and your JC.
guard will be major contributors. That said though who will back up Seyfert and Strait?
Eric Van Vliet, Hasquet, and Sharp all have the potential to be stars but you are still
counting on your depth to be supplied by true freshmen. My opinion is that at least one
of those guys will come through big time. If Chavez can make it back that will be huge!
The Griz will struggle at the start of the season, but as players learn roles Krysco will
develop a top 3 Big Sky team.

Signs of trouble:
Criswell and Krysco clash, (Their is relationship rumored to be strained)
Strait or Seyfert go down with an extended injury.
Martin's ego gets the best of him.

If McKay is also leaving, one schollie remains to be filled. This could be a JC big man. Also, I think Kyle Sharp may be the big suprise in all of this in terms of helping fill the inside scoring loss of Kamarr. I realize Van Vliet was a huge bonus for the GRIZ and that there were indications he will not redshirt, but I have a hunch, based on what he did in high school his senior year, that Sharp may really contribute early.

larry has the intensity of a bee hive, the experience of 200 foot pine on lolo peak, and the tradition of manchester united ( as far as we montanans are concerned). He has been around the world, and in the presence (on and off the court) of some of basketballs greatest minds. He knows how to relate to young basketball minds, and will demonstrate his recruiting abilities if he stays around long enough. He is as real as it gets for montana basketball. believe it.
