So if you're ruing the loss of Money and Hicks to the portal, step back from the ledge. Three more fabulous high school guards come in next year, and they might make you forget about both Money and Hicks. A peek:

Samaj Carter: A sturdy 6'4", he sorta reminds of Money at first blush. Reached the 1000 point plateau on his senior night and recently won the MVP award an at elite basketball camp. We won the recruiting battle against several SoCal schools with possibly Colorado State in the mix as well. Kid can score.

Jemai Lake, a 6'2' guard out of Oregon, scored 27 points as his team won a state basketball championship last month. Came within a whisker of winning Gatorade Player of the year in Oregon, but lost out to a teammate who also scored 27 in the championship game, including some clutch baskets down the stretch. But you want quick? Jemai is quick! I hope DeCuire turns him loose. Brother plays for Oregon State.

Jackson Haggins: Anybody catch Braden Burries last week for Arizona against Arkansas? He'll be a one and done as he's projected as a Top 10 pick in this year's NBA draft. Well, Jackson was his running mate last year when his team, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, won the California State Open division tournament. They didn't quite make it to another championship this year but Jackson was a key double-digit scorer in the effort to repeat.

Another hallmark of DeCuire's recruits: Kids are good students. All three come in with Honor Roll credentials.

Alas, you hope Carter's got another growth spurt in him, a al Anthony Davis, who sprouted up from the guard he was in high school to the dominant post player he's become in the pro's--when healthy.

That may be our only hope to get a quality big at Montana.
