Bummed for UC Davis

Given the language related - leaving to…, I think it’s fair to assume there was some kind of kerfuffle and Coach Hawk has decided to take his ball and leave. The other side of the coin is that he was given the option to go or be fired. This is the explanation I think makes most sense.given there was an immediate interest in Plough means his name has already come up in replacement discussions, prior to coach deciding to head home.

There was an article I read in my news feed that said he contemplated retiring after last season (spend time with grandkids, etc.), so best case scenario is that he let the admin know in advance that this season would be his last, and they got on the search quickly? Just a third possibility. It definitely could just be manufactured, however.

Found it. For whatever it's worth: https://www.yahoo.com/news/sources-uc-davis-football-coach-180738947.html

I'm with you. I think something has happened "behind the scenes" – perhaps going on for some times – and Hawkins had either had enough, or folks at UC-D had had enough of Hawkins. Readig between the lines of his career, I get the feeling (perhaps totally wrong) that Hawkins has a tendency to wear out his welcome wherever he has landed.

Or you could assume that he decided he was done and got his replacement lined up by getting someone on his staff elevated. I don't for a second think he was getting forced out.

Be interesting to see how many kids hit the portal after this one, Do Larrison and Conners take their chances at moving up into FBS and make an immediate impact.
Troy Taylor has 1st hand experience against both, maybe Stanford?
