Coach Leach from Washington State, previously from Texas Tech thinks Stitt is a great football genius and has tried to get him to come as an offensive coach for his team. Leach knows Stitt has a great mind and uses some of his plays. Stitt has told him he will not leave his home and is waiting for the right time and place. Mentioned he wants to be a head coach not an offensive coach for others.

First of all many ADs are afraid to hire Stitt because he is far out of the box. Likes to pass when a run is called for and vise versa. He attempts many fourth down plays and has a mind of his own. Is not a follower of others and coaches kids to make them think and not react as most coaches do. Teaching kids to think? What a novel idea and at a school no less.

I did visit with a retired head coach that is very big on Stitt. He smiled at me and said "if he coaches at Montana it will be the perfect fit for him and the Griz"

If we do get this guy expect excitement and football thrills we haven't watched since Don Read was coaching! Bob Stitt, a coach Umista hopes will be the man!

With Stitt I am thinking we might be able to keep a few of our present coaching staff and that may cause a cool transition for the players.
I've only met a few head coaches, in all my years on this earth. They seem to have as many traits different as they share. But one thing they all have in common: They are all control freaks. Some masked it better than others, and some could force themselves to delegate better than others. But, in the end, they were the boss. And that's perfectly understandable, and really as it should be -- after all, "the buck stops here" (on their desk). So even if the HC had a "genius" OC, that guy would not have a free hand in shaping and running the offense.

I watched the video about Stitt, and read some of the other articles. It seems pretty clear that, over the years, he had feelers from some mid- to high-level programs to be their OC. But you can bet that none were willing to give him the level of control of the offense he felt he needed/wanted. For that, he needed to be HC. But what big program, one that dishes out six-figures for their coaching staff, is going to take a chance on a guy that far out of the "mainstream" of coach-think? Obviously ... none.

If Stitt is the man, I think it's a great hire. He seems like a coach that has many offensive plans and will fit the best offense to the personnel. Thinks outside of the box, not afraid to try different things. I'm sure not all of the plays will be home runs, but give him time. Seems like he wants to prove his system will work at this level, high energy. Keeping the coaches that have been rumored we keep is great also.

Probably the most important, high morale, I think that is very important.

Here's a thought I had as I was typing the post above. (Split it off so people wouldn't have to read the other stuff.)

During the one video, he said he wanted a chance to stack his offensive schemes up against Division-I defenses. (I think he repeated that in the text interview.) It occurs to me that, if he did come to coach the Griz, he might be an advocate for scheduling more games against better 1A teams -- just so he could measure himself and his offensive ideas against higher-level competition.

Good posts, men! I think you nailed the personality type, Ida. That is why I see BH reluctant to be a position or assistant coach. Not in his nature.
