Also returning to the Watch List are linebackers Wes Dothard of Chattanooga, Stephon Robertson of James Madison, Tyler Starr of South Dakota and Jordan Tripp of Montana; Illinois State defensive end Colton Underwood; and Samford safety Jaquiski Tartt. Dothard was a 2011 finalist as well.

The Griz easily could (and probably should) have two players on that list. Wags had a big year last year and is primed for a monster season in 2013. With all of the talent surrounding him in the front 7 teams will not be able to double team him, etc. And the scary thing is that he may not even be our best d-end this year!

Marcus Williams is a stud. A CB has never won the award, and only once has a S won it (2002).

Tough for a CB to win it b/c if you're doing really well... you don't pile up the stats. Look at Tru in 2011. Maybe one of the best defenders in the FCS and a guy that just about every team didn't even mess with. The result, only 2 picks - coming in the playoffs with teams that didn't have as much time to prepare. In terms of "one of the best" on the field, I don't know if there's many others that would stack up next to Tru in 2011, however lack of stats = lack of recognition for the award.

I think EWU's TJ Lee III is in the same boat. That guy has a shot for the pros this year maybe, his size might be detrimental to getting to the next level, but he's the best shut-down corner in the Big Sky. His one exception is he does get in on a lot of plays and I think was near the top of the team in tackles.

From the very knowledgeable poster SmallCollegeFBfan on AGS. Look at the last para.

"I'm not saying any of these names are bad because all of them are good players but I would have just two comments.

1. Defensive ends usually get a lot of votes and there are always more than two and less than three safeties who usually end up on the list. I would put one safety and add a couple of ends.

2. Chattanooga isn't a powerhouse program so I would have put just one of their guys on the list instead of two.

My only changes would be to drop Dothard, Sachaffitzel, and Love. Then I would replace those three with Montana DE Zach Wagenmann, Harvard DE Zach Hodges, and Delaware DT Zach Kerr. Kerr is the most underrated defensive player in FCS. I would put him in the top 20 players overall if I were to put a list of the best together. Hodges was really good last year as well and Montana is a powerhouse name whose ends are always considered among the best in the nation."

wagenmann was exceptional last year.......like watching him out play his opponent....very much like mike murphy...both savvy players....cannot teach or coach their inherent ability to slip through defenses.

I'm pretty sure Tyrone Holmes is a name that is going to be much more familiar to Griz and Big Sky fans alike after this season. I hate this cliche, but its fits, homeboy is a BEAST!
