I have never understood why come on a rival’s message board and throw a ton of crap around where our history isn’t as glowing, although getting better. Have I come on in the past and threw some smack around? Yes, I have, but not very often. Too many of my friends are Griz fans to be a total dick. I like to come on egriz and read about the team from Brint and a few others. However, once some of the trolls come on, I stop reading because all that happens is it becomes a pissing match.
This Griz team reminds me a ton of the last couple of Ash teams where we had a prolific offense that was putting up pinball numbers, but the defense could not stop anyone. Didn’t matter if it was run or pass, the defense couldn’t get a stop on anyone when needed. The first few Ash teams we had legit studs on the first and second levels. Good tackling safeties and corners that could stick with receivers while Daly, Schribies and Minter got to the QB. Once those guys were gone, they were never replaced with anybody near that level and it showed, fast.
This is what I am seeing regarding the Griz defense. The studs you lost the last couple of years just haven’t been replaced by anybody close to their level of play. Gubner was a huge loss. He disrupted so much in the middle that it freed up your D-Ends which helped your LB’s and Safeties when they blitzed. With out Gubner causing so much havoc it enables offenses to come up with better blocking schemes and blitz pickups. This is exposing your safeties and for whatever reason the lack of fundamental tackling that has always been a hallmark of past Griz defenses, great tackling and creating turnovers.
Anyways, just a simple observation from an outsider. What is great about college football and the portal is you can now fix what needs to be fixed a whole lot quicker now.
