Big Sky Suspends Officials

OGDEN, Utah (February 27, 2006) - The Big Sky has suspended three women’s basketball officials for misapplication of a rule during the Eastern Washington-Montana State game in Bozeman, Mont., February 25.

Glenn Mayberry, Julie May and Chuck Rydzak have all been suspended for one Big Sky game for failing to apply a rule correctly.

At the 7:09 mark in the first half of the game and down 20-12, MSU had six players defensively on an out-of-bounds play that ended with an Eastern Washington field goal. The officiating crew nullified the two points scored by the Eagles and assessed Montana State a technical foul.

Having six players on the floor is an officials mistake, but not a correctable one. Removing the two points scored by Eastern Washington was a misapplication of the rule.

“We defer to officials for judgement calls,” said Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton. “But on an application of a rule, with three officials on the floor, we expect them to get it right. As a league, we are very supportive of our officials, but a misapplication of a rule cannot be tolerated.”

Now, how did EWU score a basket when MSU was playing 6 players. Have to be poor defense.

Kind of like when a football team still scores a TD when the defense has 12 guys on the field...

So the bobcat coaches can't count any better than the officials. I wonder if they can count to 21, as in 3-21.

I'll ignore the Cat smack for now. These girls are trying to do well.

Regarding the officials, they were not really a strong group to start with. I had no idea why they called the technical, but I figured illegal substitution. However, I have no idea why the 2 points were taken off, especially when the technical was called after the basket. The one good thing about this situation is that the Big Sky Conference is finally holding poor officials accountable for their mistakes.

Boz,

Did you get permission from the guy on bobcatnation for plagiarizing his post? just kidding, I was wondering if this stroy would ever see the board over there. Officiating has been week this year, our last game both coaches we complaining to the same official at the same time, quite funny actually

And what the hell was the 6th woman doing?? Don't you think she had to be looking around the court for someone to guard thinking, "Hmmm, something seems a little wrong here"?

I'm sorry, this thread and article just made me laugh...I don't know why...
