BSC Standings and RPI facts

Really not a lot of surprises there, although I guess you could make the claim that MSU at 4-2 with two road break-throughs is a bit of a surprise. The MSU/UNC game this weekend is a big one. If MSU should win, they are in good shape early, and UNC would be in trouble with 4 losses. If UNC wins, everyone but Weber and Montana will have at least 3 losses.

The BSC is rated 25th in RPI.

The BSC has 4 current members (MSU, NAU, ISU, Sac) and 2 future members (UND, UCD) with RPIs under 243. ISU, Sac, UND and UCD all all under 300. And sadly, all but two teams are under 200: Montana is at 125. Weber is very good at 69.

As an aside, Eastern got thumped by Seattle U earlier this week, another blow to the BSC's RPI. Seattle has an RPI of 289. Future member UCD is at 343 (which is 2nd to last in the entire nation).
 
Just a reminder ... even a good-sized change in the Big Sky RPI would not mean squat, where it matters. The BSC will always get only its conference tournament winner into "the Big Dance" at the end of the year. For everyone else it's "one and done" with a tournament loss. (I suppose if, by some miracle, a Big Sky team finished the regular season undefeated, they might get a sniff.)

No doubt. The BSC -- as a low mid-major -- will almost certainly be a one-bid league. But the league's RPI DOES have an effect on where the BSC entry is seeded, and also plays a HUGE role in getting other BSC teams into secondary tournaments.

i like how you put it....we are def a low mid major with one NCAA bid...but if the winner of the conf tourney is also ther reg season conf champion
or if the reg season runner up has a very solid overall record and wins the tourney....the BSC has a shot at a 13 or posiably a 12 as we have seen in the past.....and if your a 12 or 13 your def not one and done...seems in the years past the ncaa has put the BSC conf champion in the seed they deserve, and the last two times the griz have been dancing, we had a first round win, and a game we def could have won vs UNM. i do not see our conf title winner being a 14 or lower, unless there are some upsets in the conf tourney, regardless of our RPI, which i know holds meaning.

Not to speak for becker, but I believe his point was likely this: if you draw a 12 seed, you at least have an opportunity -- and maybe even a pretty good one -- of winning, much like UM almost did against UNM. When you get up into the 15/16 range, you go ahead and check out of your hotel before heading to the arena.
 
You can tell the Big Sky is weak this year, when you have been ranked 15th in the Mid Major poll for 3 straight weeks, while other teams are passing you up and teams that are losing are staying ahead of you.

Although this week one of the teams ahead of you that lost was BYU...94-66 sound familiar? ;)

I dont think BYU should be below us by any means, but when other teams are passing you up even when you are still winning it's kind of a crock :|

And the fact that after we beat NAU, our RPI fell 10 spots from 71-81

That is how RPI works, you're starting to sound like a UNC fan. 3 important teams we played all lost, USU one of our best wins, and Byu and Cal two of our best losses.

Beating NAU did nothing for us, but Utah St. lost to Idaho, Byu had a bad loss to LMU, and Cal lost to the same Wash St. team that lost to the Utes who we beat by 30. Since Sunday we've climbed to 76 without playing a game.

I know...I was only kidding obviously. It's an unfortunate issue when we lose some non conference games we shouldn't. If we could have an overall better non conference showing from top to bottom, our RPI's would improve. We need everyone to be undefeated OOC with wins over Pac 12 teams...then we'd all be doing well.
