Agreed. But it sure is great to have the flexibility if there ARE drawbacks.

UND men has been missing their its top player (broken jaw) and well as two bigger forwards (a JC transfer and Texas Tech transfer, who the NCAA likely won't clear due to their invention of new rules). In spite of that, UND lead SDSU (which is rated high) in Brookings for much of the game before losing on a last second 3-pt shot. When we get our top scorer back, it should get interesting. The last six quarters (against Hawaii and SDSU), the passing and teamwork have been outstanding. Earlier losses to Kansas St and N Iowa were ugly.

UND women have also been without our 6'2" center, who has been the focus of the offense. With her back in, UND dominated NDSU in Fargo. UND's schedule has also been tough, playing at an A10 team, Big East team, and Big 12 team on the road. If the freshman and sophomore guards step up, could be a very decent team.
 
Sagarin has UND men over 100 places higher, while UND women are over 100 places lower. Those ratuings make more sense, especially with the injury plagued seasons so far.
 
I hate to say it, but the Big Sigh will not get any respect until it's teams beat the likes of the University of San Francisco on a regular basis, and beating more than occasionally someone in a "better" conference.
 
As of Sunday, Dec 2, Big Sky only has 11 DI wins and 43 losses. 5 teams of the 11 have 0 DI wins. Hopefully we will see more conf teams winning in Dec before the early conf games go down.

So tonight the Sky goes 1-3. 2 home court losses to .500 or less teams, and a midmajor power team with a medicore 4-3 record crushes UNC?? Weebs plays a good game tonight against a 4-5 UVU squad, but won the way they should have at home FINAL Weber 89 - UVU 56!
 
I guess we have to keep in mind we now have SUU and UND in the league. So that is like adding 2 more Idaho State's at least for this season. They combine for 3-11 including 0 DI wins.

Don't sell Bill Evans short. He will have them back in contention again. I am not sure how long it will take, but would hate to play them at the end of the conference season.

I would like it if that were the only problems we had, but what about every other team! Unfortnately that includes Weber, UM, and even Sac ST?? Weber and UM arent players just yet??? Lets just hope we get there?? The only fix for next year is if either one of us get a 16-1, or 15-2 upset this year, and the rest of the pack can play midmajors not NAIA and D2's in noncon and actually pull off wins like NAU, and UND should have tonight!!!! Sorry just venting! :thumb: The BIGSKY has a long uphill battle just to get where we were a couple of years ago! :oops:
 
Also want to say that Jim O Day was a great politician for the BigSky as a whole, and that we as a conference will feel the effects of this great Griz AD no longer being on the comittee,(whether he could vote or not, he was buddies with the boys that did the seeding, and vice versa!) The BIGSKY will not get better than a 15!!!!

Not only the Griz, but the whole conference can give Royce Engstrom a BIG F U!!! :cry:
 
This writer thinks the Griz (and other FCS schools) need to drop down and stop competing with the big boys. Prefers wins over competing. For me, I doubt I would go to another basketball game again if this happened:

I think the Griz basketball game against Brigham Young University on Wednesday (Nov. 28) completely supports my theory that a lower division league should be created in basketball just like it is in football.

While it might be fun to say you’ve been to the “big dance,” the smaller schools hardly ever do any “dancing.” The same schools that are in the FCS division in football should be in their own basketball league.

I know it will never happen because college sports are all about money but I think the smaller schools could generate more money and interest with a playoff of their own.

The beauty of college basketball is that the mid-majors GET to play on the same stage as the big boys. Sure the game is still dominated by the power/money conferences. But if they removed the mid-majors from the NCAA tournament, I'd stop caring tomorrow.

Exactly. Nevermind the fact that we are only two years removed from beating UCLA. Sheesh. With the more talented players going one and done or avoiding college, there is actually more parity and the smaller schools can challenge, a la Butler, VCU, George Mason, etc. That may make it seem a bit more watered down but it also gives hopes to schools like ours.
 
I do not agree with that article. It is a poor argument. Griz didn't have Cherry, byu never loses at "home" and they are not a big boy. Byu has just a couple more tournament wins that Weber during our 50 yr history.

Better arguemnet would have been after the griz were blown out by a bcs school, not a church basketball league team.

Also byu has had a lot more tourney appearances than Weber but they always lose.

Idaho state currently losing to Oregon 26-77 with 8 minutes to go. Telecasters were just talking about how a game like this can be detrimental to Oregons RPI. That does not reflect well on the Big Sky!
