Brzeczhek: drop down QB

he has a much stronger arm the johnson. he isn't as shifty, but johnson's running was going to get him injured most seasons, anyway.

While I get the drooling over a potential drop down I think it's going to be real tough for this kid to get ramped up and make a serious run at starting this year - unless the dude is a total gamer.

We've seen lots of years and over lots of players it takes a good season for many guys to adapt and play at their best potential.

His highlight reel is nice, but it's no better than SSH, McKinneys, or Kemps - and that was 2 years ago vs high school opponents (just like SSH/McKinney/Kemps were). I'm going to withhold any judgement that this guy is some sort of savior until I see it consistently on the field. At this point getting him ramped up to compete and play for this season at a high level is going to be a major challenge.

Time will tell, but considering knowledge of the system, the receivers, the coaches, and having watched a lot more film and knowing a lot more of what to expect about his season's opposing teams - I think our best QB was already on the roster before this transfer. That could change, but I don't see it happening right away.
Who'd ever have thought that a transfer from Stanford would be considered a "drop down"? I remember when the Indians and Griz were basically the patsy team for stronger programs and even marine bases...how times have changed.

I'm not even sure he can be considered a drop down? He was a walk on to Stanford and wasn't even one of the 4 QB's in spring practice for them? Is that considered a drop down? Stanfords kicker probably threw more passes for them last year :) Did he have any FBS offers?

Somone notify Drew Brees to mail his diploma back to Purdue: at 6-0, he is too short to have started for an FBS team. What's next ... does he think he'll lead The Saints to a Super Bowl victory?

And while you're at it, tell Seattle to cut Russell Wilson--he's 5-11, started for both FBS NC State of The ACC and Wisconsin of The Big Ten--he must have paid someone to play QB in college not to mention the big bucks he had to pay to bribe his way into The NFL--too small!!!

And Jonathan Smith. our former OC, who led his Oregon State team in a thrashing of Notre Dame in The Fiesta Bowl 10 years ago and only stands 5-10: another munchkin imposter trying to play FBS when, given his size according to some posters on here, he clearly should have been playing 1-AA !!!

So Breczhek was too small to play FBS--really ? Someone didn't get the memo !!!

You remember the Indians?... Mmmm, you are vintage. I remember Big Game in Berkeley when daughter played trump in the Stanford band and I saw a tailgating very senior lady wearing a badge, "Indians Are Forever" .... Cardinal (singular) is kinda dumb... though some folks might think the Native American handle was a sign of disrespect. To which I respond, is a tree is a better mascot than a noble warrior?

So it looks like Kemp will not be back now eh? They found their transfer. He looks to be camp fodder this year though. I thought they would have tried to bring someone in with experience. My bet is that Mckinney starts game 1 for the Griz.

In response to your primary initial assumption, that hasn't been determined; as of yet. And insofar as the Griz finding "their" transfer, it's not necessarily that a school recruits transfers. Granted, a school can recruit high school and JC but otherwise it would seem that it's up to the members of the BCS and/or FBS teams to determine for themselves whether "they" decide to transfer or not, and whereto. Hence, upon that decision, to contact the possible school of destination and way the means; whether there is an opportunity to do so, etc.

It's not like we're like Dean Smith of the North Carolina Tar Heels that gives out a list to his assistants of prospective recruits and tells them to go out and get them, etc. Many a FCS is "lucky" to get the transfers (drop-downs, etc.) that they've gotten; Flacco to Delaware, Mitchell to EWU, etc. I think it would be in violation of NCAA rules and regulations for a FCS school to go "recruiting" on a BCS campus for prospective "recruits" to tentatively "transfer" to a different school.

I used to live in Queen Creek and this kid is a good player. He's got an uphill battle to start this year and in fact he most likely won't. I think he's good enough to play for the Griz but really don't expect him to start on a regular basis during his time here. We have better QB on the roster that are young. Whether it's TM or SS-H as starter (Kemp I guess also), nobody thought JJ would do anything as a Soph and look how he progressed. 10-1 probably out of the question but 8 wins and playoffs is realistic. Someone will come out of the battle in the fall and I will be chearing whichever QB it is!

Reluctantly I tend to think this new kid is a good thing.

# 1 we need three QBs starting out this season. # 2 he is smarter than hell. # 3 he comes from a football family. # 4 he was invited to walk on at Stanford. # 5 Coach Harbaugh must have had his I on him. # 6 Environmentalist Growler likes him. # 7 Just who in the hell can we get at this late date? Yeah, I will take him and hope like hell he turns out better than "change we can believe in, Yo Obama."

Come on BW - where is the scouting report? ;) quick - before asspicker1 comes on telling you this kid is no good.....

I was correct ONCE AGAIN that the Griz would sign a drop-down. It gets old being right all of the time. We would have had Nick Montana too if he had not spaced-out and gone against his dad's wishes.

Not correct yet. Didn't you say our starting QB this year would be a drop-down? Don't know anything about this kid, but I'd be surprised if he was our starting QB this year. No playing experience at the college level. His HS highlight video looks good, but all QBs HS highlights make them look like All-Americans. Watching just his video, he had to have improved on a lot of things if he's going to make a difference at this level...

YES! But, then, I'm olde...

A friend of mine just had his son graduate from Stanford law school. He told me that a Stanford degree is estimated to be worth around $3 million in a person's lifetime. I just can't figure out why a guy smart enough to get in Stanford would transfer to UM, unless he couldn't keep up academically. Just wonderin'

Or since he was a walk-on - keep up financially. Maybe he can't afford to pay his way through Stanford.

Stanford is needs blind...If you are admitted, money should not be a major problem..perhaps the kid likes winter? Maybe a career in Forestry, not at Cal....kids have their reasons...

"..interested in majoring in biology and pursuing a career as an orthopedic surgeon..."

What's the price range in going to Stanford...$ 27,000 to $ 40,000 a year? Quite a bit of cash for a walk-on without a scholarship offer.

If admitted to Stanford, you are guaranteed financing to fit your situation. It is needs blind. In fact, if it hasn't changed, students whose parents make less than $150K pay no tuition at all...At Stanford, things are different..that's what billions in endowments can do...
