Brothers

The Nguyen's were great. Peter was a great lightning to Dan Moore's thunder and John toiled through a lot of team growing pains and change and was the consummate warrior and pro. Plus watching them make guys look silly in the open field was often worth the ticket price.

John Nguyen lost zero (0) fumbles in his sophomore, junior and senior years. Feel free to name any starting Griz running back, ever, who didn't lose a fumble for his last 3 years, let alone somewhere who also returned punts and kicks for several years.
Sure. Not counting muffed punt receptions and fumbles not lost.

If a muffed punt or fumble is not lost to the other team, it doesn't matter and it doesn't hurt the team. Just like a bad pass dropped by a defender doesn't count as an interception. I can just see the comment. Our QB threw 5 interceptions that were dropped by the other team. LOL.
Yeah, not exactly. Muffed punts typically result in zero or negative return yards. That doesn't exactly help the team. It isn't benign as you would like us to believe.

Sometimes muffed punts roll forward. Same with fumbles. So, there is sometimes a plus to help offset the negative that you point out. Also, sometimes fair catches are muffed, so there wouldn't have been a return anyway.

Or punts that you don't field that bounce 20 yards downfield...

Good point, but my recollection is that posters who complained about that were often incorrect or grossly exaggerated what happened. No matter what any of the neggies say, it is truly unbelievable that J. Nguyen didn't have even one lost fumble in his last 3 years at UM. Losing a fumble is a lot worse than letting a punt roll for 20 yards, which, again, virtually never happened.

Right; it doesn't subject the team unnecessary risk at all.

Total BS. You're talking to people who watched the games. He was so fumble-averse that he would not field a punt that had any degree of difficulty. Numerous times punts were not caught with large negative yardage results for UM. The returners this year are doing a far better job of going after and catching the ball.

Not true. Did not happen numerous times. Happened several times. Rarely resulted in big negative yardage. A figment of some people's imagination. I recall looking at some of these posts on egriz after games, and wondering how much the poster had been drinking, how much of their mind was left, whether they were have blind, etc. Some of this seemed to be coming from the same people who claimed that John N. fumbled all the time. Again, zero lost fumbles in 3 years as a starting rb and starting returner for a couple of those years. Probably close to a world record.

Yes, JLM has terrific hands and does a better job fielding punts. No disagreement there.

PR going the hyperbole route in an attempt to deflect negativity from Johnny Nguyen....

PR, we'll give you that there wasn't any "lost fumbles"...but you simply can NOT deny that he let a lot of punts go that resulted in big negative yardage for the Griz...and I'd love to hear your definition of "numerous" versus "several"...because I can distinctly remember yelling at my TV screen NUMEROUS times as the ball was rolling, and rolling, and rolling....

Yes, I can deny it and I do. Your memory is faulty.

How about JLM's punt that he didn't field today. Are you and your ilk going to crucify him? Or, are you a liberal who won't condemn Harvey W?

Well, that's his first one, I believe. If there are 20 more in his career, I probably will.

And after 18,000 posts on here, if you can't figure out which side of the political spectrum I'm on then there really is no help for you, bro.
