Alright, you guys are right. Griz fans are the best. They go out of there way to make sure Cats fans have a wonderful experience in whatever they do. I dunno, maybe 17 years of being laughed at and basically told that MSU grads, kitties, bobpussies, whatever you want to call us, are not worthy of even being called Montanans has created a little animosity towards UM fans. Thats just the way I see it. I can tell you this, I did not graduate from MSU and have no family connection to the university. The reason that I became a fan of MSU athletics is because of abnoxious, in your face, griz fans. Its no different today, look at the title of this thread. Sorry that our facilities are not up to par with the mighty griz. You guys are so arrogant that you don't even realize it. It's just habit I guess.

Don't you guys have a website of your own?? If so, why do you spend all your time on a Griz board?

I have to give them some credit though. This is the first time in ages they didn't also try to blame a loss to the Griz on officiating. I haven't seen one whiner about that. Of course a couple nitwits tried to say it was the worst game the cats have played lately. I guess the Griz had nothing to do with it to those guys.

How the admin allows the cheerleaders to lead that "cheer" is beyond me. I remember a few years ago some fans were chanting something similar, a couple of cheerleaders (male) chimed in. They never finished the cheer before they were chewed out by a UM Admin.

I have heard Griz fans yell things that made me cringe, but I have honestly never seen Griz fans come close to the vile things said in bozone. It is probably dumb to even bring it up because it turns into a pissing contest. Maybe they are just frustrated because like it or not, the Griz have dmoniated their asses for the most part.

MM7, out of curiosity have you been to a game where Griz fans as a group or the student section had chanted something to the cats in unison that was either vulgar or referenced an arrest or drug problem?

I've heard it once, this years football game some students were chanting FTC. However it seems like something like this happens everytime the Griz visit bozeman.

Honestly, I have not had the pleasure of being to a great # of Cat/Griz games and I have only been to one in Missoula. I don't disagree about the chant about Chavez, that is just stupid considering the recent problems we have had. As far as the ESG chant, well that comes from the streak and since you did not have to be on the receiving end of that I suppose you will never understand. I am not trying to say it is a classy thing to chant, more that it will always be chanted so why cry about it after every game?

Count my family as one that does not go to Bozeman for any rivalry games because of the vulgarity. We do go watch the Griz play at Eastern and Gonzaga where they are extremliy proud of their teams but they express it with with class.
By the way ,any Bozeman business folks and Cat Booster's should know that we go as a group of families and each spend between 500 and a thousand bucks every trip over to Spokane and Cheney on hotels, gas, restaurants and the obligatory shopping experience. I'll bet there are a hundred like minded folks with disposable income in Missoula that feel as we do, Bozeman and the MSU experience isn't special enough to put up with your nonsense.

Actually I have not posted here in a while. I come over once in a while to see whats happening. You know the whole friends close enemies closer thing. I forgot that outside opinions are not welcome here. It's funny how whenever one of you doesn't like something posted or has nothing useful to say its the classic "Don't you have your own board? What are you doing here?" :lame:

of course that would never happen at BN?

And as a Bozeman business professional, it bothers mean to know that you are exactly correct in your assessment...

Student sections are student sections wherever you go. To try and say that the MSU version is any worse than any other school is subjective.

What I find funny is that they were chanting "Alcoholic" last night. How many of them were drunk at the time?

Go look up what JJ Redick had to deal with in a variety of ACC gyms and tell me that the MSU student section is so bad.

Good points. I don't care what they say until they get into racial stuff, which I have heard (JR Camel got a lot of it). I also think that players from another team who are in attendance suporting the BB team should act accordingly. I recall a game in Bozone where the msu women's BB team all wore shirts with Fuck The Griz printed on them and positioned themselves so they would be seen on TV. That is something the Coach or an msu Admin should have dealt with immediately. It isn't like they were wearing coats to hide them and then flashing the shirts for the camera. I don't have an issue when the Mens FB team sits together and raises hell at a game. They are loud and a little obnoxious, but nothing over the top. :twocents:

I think even Kramer knows there is a problem with the fans. He mad a lengthly comment on the subject on his last coaches show.

There has been a problem for years...hope they see the light someday.
won't hold my breath.

What did he say?

Not that anyone really cares, but I will chime in with my 2 cents. I am a huge Griz fan, always have been, grew up close to Missoula, grad of UM and lived there the first 23 years of my life. Have now lived near Bozo for 20 years. Have continued to attend many UM games in Missoula and in Bozo, and have been to many Cat games, football and basketball the last 15 years. While I know that does not make me an expert, I will say this.

All schools including UM have idiot student fans, who come to the games drunk, and seem to have only 1 thing in mind. Be the most obnoxious jerk possible and get attention for it.

I am probably biased being a Griz fan, but in my opinion, the Cat fans, both students and adults are a lot worse than Griz fans. Again, I am well aware that the Griz have plenty of idiot fans. But my experience here in Bozo, quite often leaves me stunned and appalled by Cat fans. Very classless. Before I moved here, I was not a Cat fan, but I did not hate them or root against them. I was a Griz fan, who usually liked to see MSU do well, except against the Griz. But after living here, their fans have made it where I do hate the Cats, and I do root against them.

I thought last nights game was just another example of MSU fan no class behavior. But I expected it anyway.

Just my :twocents:

If UM's student section was behind the visitors bench like MSU's and not up in the nosebleed section, it's possible that they would get some nastier chants going. But in general, as a non-biased student who has attended both UM and MSU, I would say that MSU's fans are nastier and more classless. It's like the Yankees and Red Sox. The Yanks had all the success in the rivalry for X amount of years, and through those years it seemed like Sox fans had more hate for the other team than they did love for their own team.

I remember well the days of The Zoo, when UM Students were in their rightful place in Dahlberg, COURTSIDE. The students were pretty clever in the things they did to rattle the opposition, but I don't recall anything like what I have witnessed in recent years at some other schools.

i'll tolerate most anything as long as its original and funny. i just wish sports teams and their fans would know when the line has been crossed into triteness, when it's no longer original or funny or even amusing, as in:

1.) dumping gatorade on the coach--funny once, a crashing bore now as smirking players sneak up on a coach like it's never been done before, or he's not expecting it;
2.) the wave (nuff said;)
3.) white outs (miami) and now gold outs (bozeman)--b-o-r-i-n-g-g-g-g....
4.) personal slurs--cause, admit it, a world exclusive has already been granted here to the dukies.

i thought the montana kids had some great funny original chants at the oregon-montana ncaa basketball game in sacto some years back, though i'll be damned if i remember any of them now. as if oregon heard every one of them, one of their players, fred somebody, now with the pacers, threw down a monster tomahawk dunk at the final buzzer of a ten-point game, and i still to this day wish dan trammel had sent him crashing into the front row.

On a more positive note I was listening to ESPN on the radio and Fran Fraschilla (sp) gave the cat/Griz game props as one of the outstanding rivalries in the country that doesn't get enough attention because it isn't well known like NC/Duke. I thought that was pretty cool coming from a guy who covers the Big 12 for a living.

AHH but you must realize that Fran comes up to missoula every year and plays at the roundball tournament that the Griz Basketball teams hold every season. He is sort of like a fan.

Beating the Cats ass is getting old. Shit is too easy

City,

I think the Griz have a white out planned soon, maybe the whiteout is a national thing. I laughed at the Trammel comment, I wished the same thing at the time.

Swilly,

When beating the cats gets old, then it is time to quit watching. I will never tire of seeing them walk off the court/field in defeat.

That is cool to hear. I'm glad the BBall rivalry is getting some more recognition.

Man you guys are a bunch of F'N whiners. "I won't even go to Bozeman because they are mean to me and hurt my feelings." It goes both ways, you drive into Missoula with Cat plates and you don't exactly get a warm welcome. Bottom line is that is a huge rivalry within this state and you should not expect people from the opposing team to kiss your ass when you show up to town. Griz fans were not exactly classy when we were leaving Wa Griz after the Cats beat them in 02' but you don't see me balling my eyes out to anyone that will listen. Get over it.

To be fair, I've seen a LOT of ballsy Cat fans around Missoula lately sporting their blue and gold.. moreso than usual for some reason.
