not trying to throw anybody under the bus. marso was doomed from the moment of his second d.u.i. but the comment is about how the university handled it--quietly, months after the fact, as a "resignation to seek other opportunities" rather than a firing. the velvet hammer.

I guess it was a semantical thing city. I was agreeing with you. My point was the U did him a favor so he can move on with his chosen profession. Pretty much what you said. I just hope he got the help he apparently needs.

UM also did itself a favor by handling it in a "classy manner". By letting a coach leave in a way that preserves his dignity and his viability, it sends a message out to future hires about the organization. Marso is a well known coach, with lots of friend, granted he is a love or hate him kind of guy, and it is better to grease the wheels than to piss off people.

It is a great article and what happened to Rouse is just wrong. You look at him a guy who did nothing wrong and deserves a second chance and guy like Marso who gets a second chance and just pisses it away. Rouse would probably give anything to have Marso's job. Marso got off easy compared to this guy.
