Breunig is a special player

I would argue that historically, UM has had just as good or better 4s and 5s than Weber.

History doesn't count. I am taking about now. Martin fell into our lap, but we have not recruited a solid center since Qvale (sp).

To many Griz fans want to dwell on history....

As a Weber State fan I have nothing but respect for Martin Breunig and his game. I love to see that caliber of student athlete in the Big Sky and can only hope that this league is able to get more of those type of players. Hope he has nothing but success in the future and hopefully he will be making some $$$ playing ball somewhere.

Good post, AJ. 99.99% of us feel the same way about Bolumboy (although I won't miss him....).

This is funny stuff, Atlanta... almost laughable. I dare you to tell Wayne Tinkle's coaching staff that they were lucky that "Martin fell into our lap..."

• Furthermore: In less than two short years, Montana has equal (if not better) recruiting, production position-by-position since the championship seasons of 10-13-14. Where, tell me, is there evidence that Montana coaches are not recruiting at the 4 & 5 positions? The opposite is true: I encourage you to do a bit of recruiting research before stating such unwarranted criticism.

• and Furthermore: Montana already has one pretty solid front court player in the young Fabijan Krslovic, as his solid play this year has proven. Did you watch (listen) to the game-casts of the Big Sky tournament where (former Idaho and Weber head coach) Joe Cravens raved about Krslovic as being the best defensive low post player in the Big Sky, second to Bolomboy? He also credited Krslovic as extremely intelligent with front court helping defense (several more examples) that he hadn't seen in other young posts around the Big Sky. Doubt that? I encourage you to watch the streamed Griz tourney games against Idaho and Weber and note Cravens' commentary. Krslovic did not have the offensive production he expected of himself (he spoke in a preseason interview about setting goals for more offensive consistency), but there are reasons for that, including that he was playing alongside an incredible offensive big man in MB. He'll be a junior next year: plenty of time to evaluate his post play.

I'm not going to include specific names in this thread, but I know of two very promising power forwards (in addition to the current playing roster) who will vie for time at the four. I have confidence they'll help the Griz maintain a solid front line.

More importantly, I'm confident that this Montana coaching staff is already recruiting the players they believe are important to Montana's continued success. They made it known early they had to solidify the back court first. Done. The wing slot will have more talent than I've seen at Montana in several years. Done. I have no doubt that these coaches will have they guys they believe will be able to step into the fray after MB has played his last game in a Griz uni.

Meanwhile, let's enjoy MB's final game or games as one of Montana's best front court players. Go Griz.

Martin B is a tremendous basketball player. He makes countless high-flying, draw dropping dunk after dunk, and powerfully blocks shots at the rim. The dude is a major beast. When he catches the ball, it's almost like you already put 2 or 3 (and 1) up on the scoreboard, he is that good. I was in awe of Martin B. He's the best Griz I've ever seen. And watching his interviews on the Grizzly Sports report made you like the guy even more. An extrememly humble and nice kid. Can't wait to follow him from here on out... the title of this thread is accurate... "Breuning is a special player"!

Breunig will be missed greatly, and I will miss watching him. I have never seen a Griz player like him, with the size, athleticism, and scoring ability.

The Griz have been blessed with some very good post players. I believed that UM always recruited strong and competitive and skilled big men, then coached them well.
John Stroeder+ Derrick Pope + Rob Hurley + Larry Krystkoiak + Wayne Tinkle + Kevin Kearney+ Daren Engellent + Brian Qvale to name a few. Breunig fits nicely in the group.

Just for the sake of accuracy, Rob Hurley was NOT a big man. Small forward and also played some guard who was 6-4 tops! But he could shoot it tho, for sure.

Yes sir Hammer, I know how tall Rob was (is). I also know how strong and skilled he was during his Griz days, and I vividly remember opponents trying to cross the lane to get position or trying set a pick on him. Rob knew all about leverage/position, and he possessed a wicked set of elbows. The Griz coaches and Mr. Cheek taught him well. Rob played the 3. Guards were Craig Zanon and Blaine Taylor, later Doug Selvig and Marc Glass. We can have a friendly debate about bigs versus wings versus guards.

I know a lot more about how Montana got Martin than you obviously do, so save your lecture for someone who thinks you know jack about the topic......

Thanks Martin. You have been a Beast!! Now go out, and set the tone for the young ones by winning a post season tourney! Thanks Again, and Go Griz!!!!!

Why does it matter? Do you think anyone cares what you know or don't know?
