Breakouts/Players of the Game - South Dakota State

I know you don't say this explicitly but are you implying our offensive line doesn't have anything to work on to improve?
Every position can get better and improve and I'm a firm believer in that. No matter how good you are, you can always get better. All I'm saying is our o lineman are playing consistently better each week. They are getting better each week. And they aren't horrible which is what Andrew always says about them.

Spot on. And I've thought all year they were a limiting factor in getting deep in the tournament. Were very good against a stout front. If they can get this kind of production from Gilman the sky is the limit in the next month.

They surely aren’t the offensive line from 2001 but Pease is doing a great job working around some of the weaknesses with play design to average over 40 points per game. Hell, I remember Dickenson having to run option plays inside the 5 yard line because the field got compressed to throw and they weren’t built for power running against some teams. I do think the offense line play this season has greatly improved since game one. And I’m looking forward to the next group of offensive linemen that have been working together as a unit under Norcross all this fall, plus next spring, summer and fall camp to make their presence in 2026. I’m very optimistic. We’ll see how many portal lineman they bring in. It should be an indication of where they feel they are with overall depth. And Schmidt is probably the most negative guy talking about the Griz on podcasts. Must have a hard one for Bobby because he doesn’t analyze. He rants. I won’t listen to him anymore. But that’s just me.

Exactly right!!! All Andrew does is rant on and on and on and every week it's the same thing. They can make up whatever excuse they want as to why they bad mouth Hauck and our lineman and other positions because it's for views. But it's disrespectful in my opinion because you played for the Coach. I never always agreed with my college coaches but I respected them both on and off the field. I never agreed with everything they did, but I didn't go on social media to talk shit about them on a weekly basis. Regardless of what generation you were born in, to talk shit about a former coach you played for on social media it for the lack of a better word, a bitch move. After the first time he started bad mouthing our HC and certain position groups I stopped listening. Then I go and watch Jordan Tripp who is the exact opposite of Andrew and is pure CLASS! He will point out what the team is doing wrong but will also give a solution on what they could do better to fix the problems at hand. And I understand that we have passionate fans and they often feel upset or mad when things don't go out way and that's fine. But as a former player, show some respect when you speak about your former coach.

I just rewatched the game today and I can't believe I didn't mention the Defense. Getting back Kyon Loud and some other guys, our defense rose to the occasion after our loss to Montana St. Our defense held the rabbits to 61 rushing yards which is crazy. Overall I think our defense is playing good football and is playing it's best when it matters most. If we can stay healthy, I honestly feel like nothing can stop us Go GRIZ!!!

The other thing I noticed that I wanted to mention about our offense that Coach Hauck eluded to. These guys are UNSELFISH!!! Ah Yat manages to spread the ball around almost every game and this past game he hit 9 different receivers. He's done this before and I think that's amazing. He tries to get everybody involved. It's very rare that you look at the stat sheet at the end of a game and see 9 listed receivers with a catch or multiple catches. While we do have our playmakers who get most of the attention in the media, our other guys contribute a ton towards the success of this offense and none of them are selfish. Being unselfish and not worrying about personal accomplishments is what propels the offense and team to greater heights. Doing your 1/11 and truly putting the team first ahead of personal goals is what will make us truly successful in the long run.

This game was epic and a great way to start the playoffs. Which players were the breakout players or players of the game against South Dakota State? List one and give the reason you chose them. There are a lot of options.
It took a re-watch for me to decide Peyton Wing is the most understated statement player. Coach Hauck pulls him aside a lot to communicate what to do. He’s a conduit for the whole line. In the 4th quarter he truly hauled a guy away from the goal line putting him down at one yard instead of allowing a touchdown. I think that is representative of his game: nothing gets by him.

Monte Gillman made clutch runs with two of them going for TDs if one more block is made.
The trouble with Monte on his runs was not hitting the holes instead running into back of blockers.
That I hope with experience he'll develop patience like Eli to let his blockers do the work.

But...But...But... The passing yards!!
Never mind, prevent D will do it every time when we have a big lead and the offense paying well,
called winning in anyone's book!
