The 3-0 GrizVB sweep over the Cats last night was truly a festive event. The crowd of 2300 fans was loud & raucous, assisted by the curtain-closing of the north bleachers. But the GrizVB team is generating a loyal group of mini-zoo- "North bleachers," all-student fans and -- as the third set tilted toward a blowout -- those students truly rattled the Cat bench & fans. The best coverage of the game is at GoGriz (updated from last night with action clips & quotes). Link: https://gogriz.com/news/2023/9/29/griz-dominate-cats-for-first-sweep-since-2016
High credit is due to coaches Allison Lawrence and Dana Halisey. The total program rebuild has not been easy, but they have this team very close (if not already at) Big Sky top tier status. Starting with the outstanding Ellesyn Invitational featuring NCAA Top 10 teams Pitt and BYU, The games have been a blast to watch. Last night's win had all the festive elements of a packed Dahlberg arena basketball game and it's significant to me that this team has a very loyal following of regional elementary and h.s. fans; the fans are young. Go GrizVB.
