Bozeman State Bobcats scouting report

Interesting little statistical tidbit:

In our four losses our O-line gave up 1, 7, 5 and 5 sacks. In the 6 wins they gave up 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1.

It's been said on here a million times that this team will go as far as the O-line can take us. Granted, MSU has only 21 sacks in 10 games, but the success of our O-line defending the pocket early will go a long ways towards foretelling the outcome of this game.

I agree. It will be interesting to see how Ione tries to get needed pressure on Gus. They can't with they're front four. Do they sell out?

Go Griz!!!

They can't defend the pass now, if they start bringing more people they will give up some long scores to our wideouts. Gus gets rid of the ball too quick to send people on most plays like teams could do against the other two.

It will look a lot like this...futile.

The only report needed :

msu bob cants:

Tackle
Break Down
Defend the pass
Defend the run

So if the Griz D holds them to 60, we will be alright :D

No good-for-nothing passes in the flat. No good-for-nothing Ngyuen runs up the gut. More short yardage passes like the Patriots do for 6, 7, 8 yards, 1st down. Brady has to lower his sights to hit those short passes. An occasional bomb is ok. Defense will do its thing and punish the MSU runners, receivers, and Prukop; the Griz D is brutal, knocks the spit out of offensive runners/receivers. It starts showing in the 4th quarter.

Griz win, 31-24.
Is it your expectation that every play go for at least 7-8 yards? The Griz AVERAGED 7.7 yards per attempt and 12.9 yards per completion and almost 4 yards per carry. They ran 85 plays and averaged 5.5 yards per PLAY. That shit is gonna win you a LOT of games.
 Yeah, AZ, I guess I want every Griz possession to get a 1st down & end in a TD. I want the Griz D to force a punt from the 30 yard line, if not a pick 6 or fumble recovery. You, Brint, et al. are more sanguine about the progress of a Griz game, altho I don't go to the stats to evaluate Griz performance. I only know what I see. I'll take you guys' word for it. :)

Hey, I WANT that too...but it's not my expectation. It's really a bunch of kids playing an imperfect game. You're like that guy I sat behind at an ASU/Oregon game 5 years ago. Oregon was thrashing ASU, and by early 4th quarter Oregon was playing their 3rd string QB and their 4th string RB. When a play didn't work (i.e., no TD) the guy in front of me would bitch an moan about Chip kelly's play calling, and "don't take your foot off their throat" and "don't go all conservative!"...two plays later they'd run the same EXACT play and gain 25-30 yards and he'd be all "THERE YOU GO!!! THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!! NICE CALL COACH!!"

No, AZ, I'm not like that guy.

1 thing that hasn't been discussed here is Prukop and cold weather - he really has only played in 1 cold weather game in his career, that was against SDSU in the playoffs last year, and he went 19-36 280 yards passing and rushed for 41 yards in a 40-47 loss. Newell had a good game rushing for over 100 yards and scoring 5 of the cat's 6 touchdowns, the other being a 1 yard pass.

I suppose you could consider the SUU game 2 weeks ago as a cold weather game, but it was in the upper 30's and sunny and calm. Prukop went 18-30 in a 23-34 loss in which he was knocked out of the game. I suppose you could also consider their late September game last year against UND a cold game as well, temps in the low 50's but windy and raining. Prukop went 17-24 in that game in which their offense scored 22 points.

I think the forecast is for mid-30's and calm on Saturday, so maybe not an issue, but Prukop hasn't played in many cold weather games and doesn't have a great track record in the 2-3 he has played in, so it will be interesting to see if this is a factor.

I heard an updated forecast this morning that said in the teens at kickoff and perhaps a slight wind which will make it feel even colder . . . around freezing is the high for the day. But I'm sure DP will be fine . . . ;)

Non factor, seriously. The playoff game last year wasn't just a cold weather game, it was a frigging bitter cold blizzard. Dakota was playing injured and managed the game extremely well to the tune of 500 yards of offense and 40 points.

But has he played in the "loud"...? Oh wait, it is in the litter box. Nevermind.

How did that work for Coastal Carolina?

Ross was 16-21 for 202 passing and 155 rushing, plus Taliafero ran for another 105 and CC was able to hang on at the end and run out the clock, so it worked out considerably better for CC than it did for MSU and Prukop in his cold weather games. But then Ash is no Mogila.

After the Coastal Carolina game I stopped thinking that the cold is going to be a decisive factor.

Yea probably true. Actually after Wofford I started discounting cold as a factor. I just thought it was weird that an MSU 2 year starting QB would have played in only 1 true cold weather game, and it was a loss.

I also remember a lot of talk from MSU fans last year after the Griz game against UND that Prukop was awesome and Griz offense sucked, but when I asked about MSU O scoring 22 points at home with their starting QB and UM O scoring 16 points on the road with a backup QB for 1/2 the game I was told it was because the MSU/UND game was cold and windy which made it tough for Prukop.

Wow, guys, wow

I know, we should really be talking about how the Griz are complete dogshit, and would be lucky to beat Carroll at this point.

Jeez, you don't think the Griz would be Carroll? Wow, that is harsh.

I'm sorry, Raider, I had no business commenting on your area. Not cool. Or cold . . .

All I really know is -

Hot time is coming now,
oh, brother mine.
