Weidenaar turns and yells at DP and motions to keep it and run it over here where the block was sealed. DP flips his marbles, jumps into Weidenaars face. Weidenaar grabs DP by shoulders pads and they almost go to blows. good stuff.
That only shows that both are competitors!![]()
If that never happened to you, it only confirms that you've never played the game.
As an aside regarding Prukop being too amped for the game... Cramsey said yesterday, "if he gets to up, I get him tackled and that gets him back into the right frame of mind." Or something close to that.![]()
Of course I watched the game, Brint. I guess we have separate reactions to what we saw, altho I didn't consult the statistics. It just seemed to me that every time a pass in the flat was thrown, there were 2 or 3 defenders stopping the receiver in his tracks. As to the stats, ok, 4,5 passes went for decent yardage, out of a total number attempted? Same with runs "up the gut." I'll watch more carefully at the Griz-Cat game.BWahlberg said:Grizzoola said:No good-for-nothing passes in the flat. No good-for-nothing Ngyuen runs up the gut. More short yardage passes like the Patriots do for 6, 7, 8 yards, 1st down. Brady has to lower his sights to hit those short passes. An occasional bomb is ok. Defense will do its thing and punish the MSU runners, receivers, and Prukop; the Griz D is brutal, knocks the spit out of offensive runners/receivers. It starts showing in the 4th quarter.
Griz win, 31-24.
Did you watch last week's games? At least 4 or 5 passes "in the flat" that went for 6,7,8'yard gains. And Nguyen rushed for over 100 with many plays coming between the tackle and the guard! Cmon man

They can't stop outside runs, and they can't stop the vertical pass game. I'd also love to see Stitt bring out a heavy dose of the fly-sweep, just for fun.
I also think that their quarterback peaked early and put up huge numbers against similarly inferior defenses. Against a solid defense with speed, not so much. Check out the Southern Utah game for reference. If we can get pressure with our defensive lineman, allowing linebackers to keep the broken plays in check, game over.
I'm typically a pessimist when it comes to this game, but MSU, in my view, is a lesser version of Eastern.
That's been the case for a few games now. Nacc has been a non-factor for about 4 games.Fahque said:The difference this game is that those passes went to Roberts rather than Naccarato.bgbigdog said:BWahlberg said:Grizzoola said:No good-for-nothing passes in the flat. Paying attention to the factual is only a requirement for you BW, the rest of us get to use our incomplete recollections. Cmon man.

Statistically MSU's defense is better than EWUs in many categories. It doesn't mean they're great but I don't think they're going to be as bad as what the Griz faced this last weekend.
Scoring defense:
MSU - 6th, 32.5
EWU - 12th, 40.1
Total defense:
MSU - 11th
EWU - 12th
Rush defense:
MSU - 10th
EWU - 12th
Pass defense:
MSU - 7th
EWU - 8th
Sacks:
EWU - 4th (t)
MSU - 8th
1st downs allowed by the defense
MSU - 7th
EWU - 13th
3rd down defense
MSU - 9th
EWU - 13th
Red zone defense
MSU - 6th
EWU - 9th

Gus completed 3 passes alone to Ben Roberts that went for 6, 6, and 8 yards. Another in the flat to Nguyen that went for 12 and a 1st down.
Additionally... those 2 to 3 defenders chasing down the WR. Ever think that's the idea? Lot of running going on out there. EWU's players had to chase a lot of receivers and RBs sideline to sideline and the offense ran 54 plays that first half.

In our four losses our O-line gave up 1, 7, 5 and 5 sacks. In the 6 wins they gave up 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1.
It's been said on here a million times that this team will go as far as the O-line can take us. Granted, MSU has only 21 sacks in 10 games, but the success of our O-line defending the pocket early will go a long ways towards foretelling the outcome of this game.

I agree. It will be interesting to see how Ione tries to get needed pressure on Gus. They can't with they're front four. Do they sell out?
Go Griz!!!

I assume the 7 is from the Poly game? I think the moral of the story is if you can give Gus at least a few seconds to make his reads, more often than not he's going to make the right decision and be very effective.

 Yeah, AZ, I guess I want every Griz possession to get a 1st down & end in a TD. I want the Griz D to force a punt from the 30 yard line, if not a pick 6 or fumble recovery. You, Brint, et al. are more sanguine about the progress of a Griz game, altho I don't go to the stats to evaluate Griz performance. I only know what I see. I'll take you guys' word for it.AZGrizFan said:Is it your expectation that every play go for at least 7-8 yards? The Griz AVERAGED 7.7 yards per attempt and 12.9 yards per completion and almost 4 yards per carry. They ran 85 plays and averaged 5.5 yards per PLAY. That shit is gonna win you a LOT of games.Grizzoola said:No good-for-nothing passes in the flat. No good-for-nothing Ngyuen runs up the gut.
