Boys of Summer Big Sky Little League Today

I had a day off today, and I'm working only 80 miles from Williamsport, so I made the trek to the game today. It was a great atmosphere, lots of emotion, and the Montana contingent was very noisy. Even the locals that were cheering seemed to pro-Montana, probably because CA had just beaten a team from just down the round in Clinton County the night before. I posted some photos on the other site from the game. Great run by the boys, and congrats to all them. I even saw some Griz gear here and there at the game. No cat gear though....lol.

That's awesome you got to go to this since the UT game is out (if I remember correctly).

didn't catch the end of the game but did cali's arrogant coach have time to squeeze the media in after the game today. it isn't hard to see where these kids get their attitudes from when you see the coach act the way he did after we beat them.

congrats to the montana kids. represented VERY well.

What have they done?

Besides tripping one of our boys and cleating another...oh and outright saying they knew they would beat MT...I guess not much...GO JAPAN!!!

Easy, easy. I didn't see either of the cheap shots, but I did hear the kid's interview. Weird quote, but I don't think these kids really know what to say or how to say it in interviews. Either way, the cheap shots would piss me off. Is there video of these yet?

In fairness, I thought it was nice to see the HB kids giving high fives to McKenzie as he rounded the bases after his HR in the 6th today.

Sorry, CDA...the cheap shots were in the first MT/CA game and the quote came after the CA/PA game when the field reporter asked their "star" how he felt about playing their friends from MT again...he said he knew they were going to win...and as far as giving high fives...it's easy to act like a good sport when your team has a huge lead...did you watch the first MT/CA game?

Yep, since I'm in training I have to help on a top hole rig tomorrow. Then my own rig (horizontal) is back at it on Wednesday. There was a slight chance I was going to be able to sneak down to Knoxville if we didnt finish until next week, but the driller were to efficient.

No prob. I caught the last few innings of MT/CA 1, but I was at dinner so I couldn't really watch closely for the cheap shots if that's when they happened. I got home, turned on the TV, and the first pitch I saw was the HR.

I caught the kid's quote after the PA game, but at the time I chalked it up to him being a 12-year-old with no clue how to convey his point. Coupled with the cheap shots, it seems classless, I agree. Also, good point about the high fives with the lead. Hadn't thought about it that way.

I pretty much agree with the posters who have suggested that the CA kids' actions are extensions of the coaching. I wasn't too impressed with the way the CA coaches comported themselves. Bad vibes for some reason.

Good luck with all this job stuff!

Yup...I don't blame those kids at all...you can chalk it up to the coaches. The parents probably deserve a little credit as well.

It's cause the dad is most likely a pretentious jerkwad from the O.C. who was born with a silver spoon up his rear, and is living vicariously through his kids. You're a little league coach, dude! Stop acting like the second coming of Casey Stengel.

I swear this is why people from Northern California hate their southern family. So pompous.

Yeah, that's probably it.

There's more to Orange County than Newport Beach, you know. Most people in HB are pretty much middle class.

Now, about the parents maybe living vicariously through the kids, I think that definitely happens...almost anywhere.

wow GRIZ football can't get here fast enough!! at least then we can all go back to anonymously trashing 18-22 year olds instead of 11-13 year olds!

My take is the Billings kids performed in the second game pretty much as they did in the 1st. I'm not saying they performed badly; this was a talented MT team that awoke some eyes around the country & world. The difference is the California kids DID NOT perform in the second game as they did in the first. Their bats came alive. I've only seen the MT kids play these two games, as I've not been much up on LL baseball.
Maybe their bats were alive, as well, in other games they played to get them where they got.

Yet, for the deportment of the California parents, esp., I'm bummed by their arrogance, and I believe that filters to the coaches & then the players. Not the other way around. I hope Japan cleans their clock.

You could not be further from the truth. CDAGriz is right, most of OC is very middle class. Don't base your opinion on what you watch on the Bravo Channel. That's like Californians believing that Montana is full of a bunch of toothless hillbillies. The Oceanview section of Huntington Beach is not even middle class. It is an area of old apartment buildings and rental properties with a large population of illegal aliens. It is referred to as the Slater slums in HB.

Huntington Beach maybe next door to Newport Beach but it is not in the same class. HB is the more blue collar beach town.

Didn't mean to stir up a Hornet's nest, literally, but I'm from California, thank you...and often am in the OC. So it's my opinion based on experience.

Is it the real Housewives? No. But in my opinion there is a certain air of smugness in MOST areas of Orange County, similar to that I thought the coach has displayed. I also think saying Huntington Beach is middle class is somewhat of a misnomer. Is it middle class for LA? Yes...the rest of the country might not associate that area in that manner.
