this should explain...........their offense had more 1st downs, TOP, down conversions, net passing yards and total plays against our stellar defense. the question is..... what could our offense do against our defense? if a team like colorado can produce like this......could we put these numbers or better?

UNCO UM
1st Downs 23 15
Rushing 8 8
Passing 11 6
Penalty 4 1
3rd Down Conv 7 6
4th Down Conv 1 0
Punts / AVG 6/37.7 5/37.8
Return Yards
Punts Retrs/YDS 0/0 4/29
KO Retrs /YDS 2/41 4/68
Penalties /YDS 12/91 8/90
UNCO UM
Time of Pos. 33:26 26:34
Total Net Yards 356 410
Total Plays 81 56
Average Gain 4.4 7.3
Net Yards Rush 158 229
Rushes / Avg 41/3.9 36/6.4
Net Yards Passing 198 181
Comp/ Attempts 22/40 11/20
Yards Per Pass 3.9 9.1
Fumbles / Lost 2/2 1/1
Intercep / Yds 1/0 1/1

And they started a 3rd string QB that did not know he would even play until Saturday morning and they simplified the game plan for him.

wow, this could reflect on our defense as well :o

I loved the 2nd half play calling. That's how you win games you already won in the first half.

Nuff said. Bring on NoDak.

I watched NoDak and MSU game for awhile...Did not have access to the Griz game but from reading the remarks here, and watching ND, I'd say be careful for what you ask for...

WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

We won and now we are whining about the game being too boring???? WTF? Holy f'ing crap. The sense of entitlement and spoiled nature of some griz fans is too much...

Think some of you should quit watching college football and go watch an Arena game or CFL game instead. Maybe more your style... or maybe you just don't like football? Maybe pro wrestling is more your style or Globetrotter basketball. I don't know...

Maybe you are one who should start rooting for the Bobcats, since you are satisfied with our team looking like horsesh*t for three quarters, and actually being out-scored in those quarters by a team who would have trouble competing in the Frontier Conference, and playing with their third string QB.

The Griz fans I know understand that our current team can not win against the top tier of FCS teams in the country. This has never been the case in the past 30 years. They want to return to that level of excellence. Not whining. Just the facts, Mr. Sam "mediocrity lover" Blitz.

Thank goodness you and your friends are not true fans. All you look for is something to bitch about. I'll buy you a ticket on the train to Bozeman.....and yes I know - that train will take forever to get there.

Nothing like mailing in a half a'd effort for three quarters versus a weak opponent with an unpreped 3rd stringer at qb.....now that's championship ball!

You are the biggest homer on the board, and I am quite sure you would be happy if we never the playoffs again.

I thought Brint, Hav and I were the biggest homers. I'll check with them to see if we're okay with allowing Ordigger in the club. He's made a pretty good case for it lately, but I better check with the others before giving him the okay.

Hmm, Delaney went to a ball control offense. What he didn't say was his plan was to make the opponents offense control the ball, keeping them on the field, thus wearing them out, then, Griz win! Sly old coach, that Delaney.

Well I am real, and not a "character". The difference is I'm a fan. Win, lose or draw I am a fan of the Griz. There are an appalling number of posters here on eGriz that are not fans....its not about accepting mediocrity, it is simply about respect and appreciating what our players, and yes coaches do each week. They work their tales off, and yet what happens here? Dozens of wannabee's come on here and complain, win or lose about the program.....a program that isn't about support from themselves but about attention for themselves, and the drama they want to create (and yes you included).

In the mid 60s, I lived near that other "stadium", and throughout the 70s I remember going to games. We got trounced most of the time...yet I remained a fan. To many here, have no clue what the lean years were like so they don't appreciate what we have now. Instead they come here, and whine, and snivel, and bit$# and moan not once appreciating what we have....and more important where we've come from.

Of course I want my team to not only make the playoffs, and to win the NC but I'm still a fan always....and I will support my team not criticize them all the time. There are some posters who can give tactical criticism that is fair and direct, but they do resort to name calling, asking for heads to roll and be all around losers. We could (and may) win the NC this year - yet the next day there would be a significant number of posters complaining about how we did it, and how lucky we were, and that is was the talent level not the coaches. Why do I believe we could and may win the NC this year? Because I AM A FAN of the GRIZ. Not some bandwagon wannabe seeking attention because their ego is placated.

That's a great post there.

Why on earth would a coaching staff open the playbook in a game that was not competitive? It might not be entertaining, but it is smart. Please....everyone just take a deep breath.

Because it was homecoming and one of the biggest Alumni fund raising events of the year and wanted alumni leaving for their open houses and events in a great mood? OR his O-line needed a bunch of game time experience? OR he could have worked on the punt Unit?. Or he could have perhaps developed a consistency in momentum that we have been lacking? Or he could have practiced making some offensive adjustments that would have resulted in keeping the defense off the field a bit more so they wouldn't be quite so beat up next week, Or he could have taken some time to give game time experience to one of the QB's we will be depending on next year. he didn't need open the whole book, but should have been able to get a few more first downs.

What he said. It would not have required revealing more of the playbook. :thumb:

tnt - you make some good points. With respect to Alumni fund-raising: nothing says open you wallets like bringing home a goal post from Chatty. I just take a longer view. It was one game in a long season. Deep playoff run is what we need. I am disappointed with the injuries, and comment qb depth is spot on.

Or, this had little or nothing to do with Delaney or the coaches. To me, it was clear that the team started coasting during the second quarter and wasn't able to get it going again in the third quarter. This happens sometimes. The game was over at some point in the 2d quarter, if not by the end fo the 1st quarter. NC probably made some adjustments at half time. NC has a pretty good defense, altho UM jumped all over them early in the game. Delaney left in the offensive starters for a fairly long time, presumably hoping that they'd get fired back up and start moving the ball. For the most part, they didn't. So what? No big deal. The offense is a work in progress. It needs to keep improving.

I just don't get how people can complain about the offense scoring 4 straight TD's to start the game, building a big cushion, and winning 38-13. The defense started with holding NC to two 3 and outs, and, in the first 5 drives, NC had 19 plays for 145 yards, 74 of which was the qb's long run for a TD. By the way, UM was blitzing from man coverage, and didn't have anyone in position to watch or catch the qb. The qb ended up with 72 yards rushing, despite having 74 on one play.

Nobody is unhappy with the win. However, if NCU had started the way they finished, who knows it might have been a loss. I don't see the reason for any panic but I do see the need for the Griz to play 4 good quarters of football. Good teams do that.

Good teams often don't play 4 good quarters of football in a blowout. On the other hand, I agree that the Griz should have played better after the first quarter. Better in the 2d quarter, and one good drive to start the 3d quarter.
