When was the last time the Griz lost 3 games in a row on in the season. Better yet when was the last time the Griz lost 3 home games in a season? Better than that when was the last time the Griz had as many epic second half collapses in a season? Answer, not in recent memory.
Who was the coach for all of these? Was it Semore or Baer? Answer: Baer.
But then again I guess its always good to have coaches working their way down the ladder instead of up it. Its every coaches dream to continually move to smaller programs for less money but it has nothing to do with performance??? lol
UM didn't have the talent or depth to be a better team last year. They wore out at the end of games, because they didn't have enough depth and didn't have a running game to take time off the clock. A very good starter from the prior year told me the team over-achieved last year for the talent it had. Yes, OVER-ACHIEVED.
Who recruited most of last year's team? Stitt.
Since you came on the board, you have repeatedly bashed Hauck and his coaches. You are obviously aligned or in love with Jensen, or maybe Favorosa. You think Stitt was treated unfairly. He wasn't.
Sneed proved to be a much better QB than Jensen. Hauck et al were correct on their qb decision. Maybe Jensen will become a great qb, but he sure wasn't as good last year, or the year before, as Sneed was last year.
A better question might be: when was the last time UM team performed so well without good talent and good depth?

The reality of last year is the team was so leveraged by the recruiting of Stitt/Semore there was little chance of success over the course of the season. They deserved the W-L record on their resumes as much or more then the current staff did.
We all know about the philosophies of Stitt and what that meant for Hauck trying to reinstall a legitimate offense again, he had to try to build a KNEX model using half Lincoln Logs. Pair that with the fact he wasn't left the horses up front to either run the ball or protect the pocket for more than a couple seconds and it thins your playbook down to the size of an Olive Garden menu.
Additionally, these offensive problems effectively fucked the defense, which was short on depth talent thanks to previous coaching, and a good group of starters who played pretty well in the first half of games had nothing left late in games because the pool behind them was thin and the offense couldn't run the ball and give them a blow for more than 2 minutes. It was horrible to watch but there was no way to stop it without the offense taking some time off the clock, which rarely happened after halftime.
Moving forward, problems are being addressed and we should start seeing results. The OL has been focused on and help is on the way, how much improvement is yet to be seen but there is optimism. Will Baer be the answer on defense? Not sure, but I think we'll be able to see a fair assessment this year compared to last if the offense can keep them off the field once in a while.
Again, time will tell.

It takes about 40 good players to win consistently; we had about 25. Might be about 40 this year.
