Boise State and Montana (Bowl vs playoff)

why is it a huge step from reality to forecast the hypothetically moved-up griz to be playing in a meaningless bowl game in a town only sort-of associated with college bowl games?

i will defend my proposition until.... somebody throws up a better argument.
You should read before you post. What is a HUGE step from reality is the Griz losing to Idaho State at Idaho State in the playoffs as you alluded to in your last post. Not only is that a huge step from reality, but I would say there is a better chance of the Griz moving up and playing in the Fiesta Bowl in 5 years than the Griz even having to go to ISU for a playoff game, much less losing there.

No contest. Beautiful.

I'm going to go one step further than Brint and say there was a ZERO percent chance that Boise St. would have been playing LSU for the BCS title had they not lost to TCU. Absolutely no chance! A BCS Bowl, yes, possibly the Fiesta again. I think Boise actually still deserved a BCS bowl bid over Michigan and I HATE Boise State. But they should be playing Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl and got screwed having had to play in the Maaco Bowl.

Also, about the whole step back from reality thing, I agree with others, there is NO CHANCE Montana would ever be playing Idaho State in Pocatello in the FCS Playoffs? NONE. Also, as far as I'm aware, Seattle does not have a bowl game to speak of, so that scenario really doesn't work either.

Don't forget that for some bowls, and I'm not sure all, the schools are on the hook for 17,500 tickets whether they sell them or not. WVU is on pace to lose $650,000 for their bowl game this year. Olivier Luck, the AD, was quoted "Our goal is to keep the loss under a million.."

See if you can find one Boise St. fan, alum or player who wishes the Broncos had been in the 2011 FCS playoffs.

And then see if you can find one that doesn't wish there was a playoff in the FBS. :thumb:

Find me one Boise St. fan that doesn't think BSU didn't get f*cked this year, last year and probably next year and doesn't wish that the Football BullShit Sub-division didn't have a playoff system....wait here's one.

Boise St is the outlier, not the norm. As much as I want to think we would be outliers as well, you can't think like that. Ask Idaho how fun their postseasons have been.

as a follow-up, suspend reality for a second and say that the griz move up next year, unexpectedly win the wac, and accept a bid to play ucla in the tidy bowl in seattle. the game is a month after the regular season. come game weekend, would you pile up the family and bbq into the car, have a tailgate party with friends who live there now (and you rarely get to see), friends who also drove out from montana to have an adventure and support their team, and maybe even some fans of the opposition. plus maybe do so much as to.. go to the game, which is being played in the seahawk's stadium?

or would you rather sit at home and complain the griz are in the tidy bowl, and that you would have preferred it if the griz had instead lost out of the playoffs in a game against idaho state, in pocatello.

Why suspend reality. Let's actually take a look at this scenario. Everyone keeps using Boise as an example, because we would be able to recruit just like them - right? Never mind that the population base is around 1 million in Boise and we would also be recruiting against them, every Pac 12 school, Colorado, Wyoming, etc. Don't forget the Pac 12 schools and Boise have warmer climates and are based around metropolitan areas. I love Montana and Missoula, but try recruiting TOP FCS talent to a town under 100,000 that gets temps below 30 on a frequent basis and is expensive to fly in and out of because you can't drive home as a college kid from California, Arizona, etc. Currently we are getting the cream of the crop from not just Montana, but surrounding states who have kids that are not getting full rides from FCS schools. In case you did not notice - a National Title is still elusive. Do a reality check and don't piss down the back of something good here. We have a great in state rivalry, stadium, fan base and state bragging rights. I personally don't give a hoot if someone from out of state gives our program recognition - because I don't care about their programs. I do care that we fill our stadium frequently and the dollars are rolling in (not sure you can guarantee that by jumping to the next level). Ask yourself when was the last time you said - Man that University of Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Wyoming, fill in the blank of some insignificant of out state program - sure is impressive.

Careful what you ask for. If there were, FCS would be even more irrelevant.
