Boise State and Montana (Bowl vs playoff)

Boise State had a tremendous year missing out on a trip to the national title game by a 38 yard field goal while Montana also had a great year missing out on a trip to the national title by 3 points.

The difference is Montana got to play three post season games against ranked competion while Boise got one post season game against a highly outmatched 6-6 team.

Montana got to prove it was one of the best in the nation while Boise State got to prove nothing

You can have that crap. I hope we never move to FBS.

FCS > FBS

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: They can keep the Toilet Bow, Chip Dip Bowl, I Wish I Was Playing IN A Real Game Bowl, etc. I feel sorry for the Montana kids who left the state because they thought they were playing at the next level. A recent unnamed player chose Nevada and they have all of 7 fans in Hawaii watching their Bowl game. I will take the FCS, our fans, the in state rivalry, and playoff games!

I second that . . . for sure! This is a much better way to determine who are the best of the best. We . . .in my opinion. . . were the best, just needed a few more minutes to prove it! (stupid first quarter. . grumble, grumble, mumble, grumble- this is in jest, btw)

I dunno guys...

I mean how AWESOME would it be to have a Beef O'Brady's Bowl trophy sitting next to our national title trophies? I mean come on! Beef O'friggn-Brady's bowl trophy.

Kids dream of that stuff.... not a national championship.

I agree with everything said, except one small thing. I'm not so sure Boise St. would've been in the BCS championship even if they had beaten TCU. Just look at how far that one loss dropped Boise, from a BCS bowl to some also-ran bowl against a .500 team. Something tells me we'd still be seeing an Alabama-LSU rematch. Rematches are all fine and good....so long as both teams survived a playoff field to earn the rematch.

If we ever do "move up" and get to play in one of the "prestige" bowls like the afore mentioned Beef O'Brady Bowl and win the game I hope to hell no one has the poor taste to put the trophy next to the NC trophies. The Beef O'Brady Bowl trophy will need a display equal to its prestige...like a storage closet in Jesse hall maybe

..Last night game was pathetic.. I felt bad for Boise being conference tied to such a lousy game.. I will say it would be fun to go to Vegas to watch the Griz..But these minor Bowls are not worth watching(unless you root for the team involved)..I realize that most of the country could care less about the FCS playoffs. But I would much rather see my team earn it on the field, than be stuck playing some bottom dweller from the Pac 10, or a team from one of the mid major conferences..

More peole watched the bowl game last night, then will watch the game in Frisco. I agree the playoffs are a lot more fun, but it doesnt look like the rest of America agrees.

Since this is not really a move up thread I will take this opportunity to voice a thought I have had about FCS playoff and the apparent lack of game income for the NCAA and schools in FCS. Would it be appropriate and feasible to find sponsors for ( maybe Quarterfinal, )Semi and Championship games in FCS not unlike Bowl sponsorships in order to bring income to the FCS schools.???
Any thoughts about this possibility.

And yeah, It could be called Beef O'friggin Brady if that will get more $$$ for UM facility upgrade or a least some bucks out of BW.

Exactly. We might think the FCS championship is a big deal in big sky country, but we're kidding ourselves to think the FCS carries much weight elsewhere.

This is a particularly bad year for the BCS system. Everyone except a few brainwashed journalists and commentators know a playoff system is better for fans and the sport as a whole. I can't stand how the season fizzles into a myriad of goofy, anticlimactic bowl games, but I'd still prefer the BCS, because I think changes are coming and the Montana program would be successful at that level.

4 days in Vegas for Bowl week and all the activities they put on is a hell of a lot of fun for players and fans. Great experience.

The New Mexico Bowl had some great activities as well taking the team up in Hot air ballons, pep rallies, great feeds with local food plus some great gifts for the players.

Playoffs are better but bowls are a lot of fun frankly if you go.

AMEN brother!!!

the whole country knew who kellen moore was by the end of his sophomore year. who knows about johnson?

as a follow-up, suspend reality for a second and say that the griz move up next year, unexpectedly win the wac, and accept a bid to play ucla in the tidy bowl in seattle. the game is a month after the regular season. come game weekend, would you pile up the family and bbq into the car, have a tailgate party with friends who live there now (and you rarely get to see), friends who also drove out from montana to have an adventure and support their team, and maybe even some fans of the opposition. plus maybe do so much as to.. go to the game, which is being played in the seahawk's stadium?

or would you rather sit at home and complain the griz are in the tidy bowl, and that you would have preferred it if the griz had instead lost out of the playoffs in a game against idaho state, in pocatello.

You're really suspending reality if we're playing in Pocatello in the playoffs.
Your scenario sounds fun but that nighttime playoff game in Missoula was quite a bit of fun too.....

You would have to take a HUGE step out of reality to think this is going to happen. But to answer your question, I would rather drive the 500 miles home to Missoula from this shit hole (known as western Washington) that I live in to see the Griz play a playoff game under the lights then drive 30 miles to the known center (Seattle) of the shit hole referrenced above to the see the Griz play in ANY bowl against ANY opponent

why is it a huge step from reality to forecast the hypothetically moved-up griz to be playing in a meaningless bowl game in a town only sort-of associated with college bowl games?

i will defend my proposition until.... somebody throws up a better argument.
