Boise St. learned this year that the MWC has some problems. Namely their terrible, and I mean, TERRIBLE, tv contract. I am convinced that the TV contract is what drove Utah, BYU out to begin with. Ya the BCS thing is there, but they could have gotten that if they all stayed. I would hate to see the Griz move up even into the MWC as I think you would see them on TV less than they are now. The Mountain is that bad........

it is not so much that the MW TV deal is so bad as far as showing games, it is the fact that it does not give teams as much money as the BCS TV deals get. Each MWC team currently gets 1.5 million in revenue from their TV deal year. The PAC-12 teams get nearly 20 million each year. So when Utah and TCU, and now Boise State, had the chance to get that kind of money, it was a no brainer. But in Montana's case, I am sure $1.5 million is much more than what they are receiving now from their current TV deal.

As far as viewing the games, in the local areas, it is part of the local cable packages AND for those not in the local area, it is available on Dish and DirecTV. Basically EVERY non-conference home football game is shown, as well as every conference game. In addition, around 15-20 basketball games would be carried, as well as many women's basketball games. So, in fact, people would be able to watch more UM sports on television.

You would think that would be the case but it never seems to work out that way. Boise lost a ton of coverage this year in the MWC. Utah and BYU got way more coverage this year than last. The WAC really does have more exposure than the MWC as far as TV, maybe not more money, but more exposure. If you ever sit down and watch a game on the Mountain, you will know why I think we should avoid it like the plague. They are going to have to adopt a new conference motto soon:

MWC - We really are the new WAC.

While I am Griz alum, lived in Las Vegas for 6 years and for a variety of reasons, became a big fan of UNLV athletics as well as a follower of the MWC. I know all about the Mtn., CBS-College Sports, etc., the TV contract. Moved back to Montana a year-and-a-half ago and have been able to watch a ton of UNLV games (and other MWC contests) with Dish Network.

Not sure how you can say Boise lost a ton of exposure by moving to the MWC. In all actuality, they were probably on TV more than last year, due to the MWC's TV contract. Just not on the mothership that is ESPN. And BSU didn't have to play all those Friday games that they did with ESPN. Plus, there will be the added hoops games, as well as having soccer games picked up this year, etc., that Boise State will lose once they leave the MWC.

Will be interesting to see what the Big East TV contract is like. Depends on who it goes to, it might be worse than even the MWC's as far as exposure and availability go.

I can't find the schedule for last year(2010), but I am pretty sure that 6 of their regular season games were on ESPN or ESPN2. This year(2011) I think it was 3 but can't confirm it higher or lower. The exposure nationwide is the problem for Boise with the MWC. Locally people will want to see it but at the national level, no one cares about BSU even ranked 7th. Kellen Moore had a great year, was a Heisman finalist last year and isn't making the trip to New York this year. Just my opinion, but I believe it has everything to do with not being seen nationally. His numbers are just as good this year but didn't get noticed.

AQ more than likely won't exist in two years, so I don't know why they rushed to move. Even then, had the Big East not announced this move they were in serious jeopardy of losing AQ status, and a waiver wouldn't have saved them.

All about the TV money...whether real or make believe. If Boise State can get 5-8 million (or more) in TV money each year, then it is a no-brainer of a move. I just don't think this newly formed Big East is really attractive to TV viewers from a football standpoint. Will be interesting to see what kind of TV deal the Big East gets. Which of course is why San Diego State came into play. The Southern California TV market and recruiting area.

Boise State and Moore got plenty recognition this year. Highlights always on Sportscenter, plenty of ink written about him by national writers, etc. Three games on ESPN and three more on Versus, which goes to 80 million homes. This year, however, several other players had better numbers than Moore (which is hard to imagine but true). All five Heisman finalists put up better numbers than Moore. Had nothing to do with his exposure nationally. Utah/BYU/TCU etc., saying their exposure was hurt is way better than saying the truth, which is "We are getting a crap-ton more money and that is why we are leaving."

Boise got screwed by the BCS. MWC will not invite a FCS school. There is a big difference playing a FCS vs an FBS schedule. Would be nicer to be a true champ then the winner of the hdsjlfslf bowl. Only a team in one of the main 6 conferences can "win" a championship. So moving is just to stroke someones ego, is just not worth it.

I will say this...

It would be an idiotic move for the Vandals to move down to the BSC. We are already the bloat conference & we don't need another.

Now... on the other hand if both UM & MSU moved up to fill the vacant spots in the WAC... that may be an interesting idea.

Actually, it makes perfect sense for the Big Sky to add one more. Doing so puts the conference at 14, which allows it to split into two divisions. Obviously, Idaho fits perfectly into the conference's geographic footprint.

It would be more idiotic for UM and MSU to join a WAC conference that consists of Idaho, New Mexico St., a couple of FBS newbies (UTSA, Texas St.) and a few non-football schools (Denver, Seattle, UTA). Seems as though LaTech, Utah St. and San Jose St. may be gone from the WAC soon, so that's all that would be left. If so, the Big Sky would be a stronger conference.

Well, now that you put it that way. :D

The Big East was barely watchable with the current lineup they have, but now they're losing Pitt, Cuse, and WVA, the only team people will watch for football is Boise.. no one in Texas really gives two shits about Houston or SMU, no one in Florida cares about UCF, and no one in San Diego cares about the Aztecs. SDSU has one conference championship since they've been a FBS school, Houston is a flash in the pan every few years, UCF and SMU aren't even on the radar.. and if June Jones leaves SMU, no one will even know they exist. So yeah, they are adding some large TV markets, but those TV markets don't care about the teams in them.

Much, much more. I believe we get five figures from TV currently, not seven.
