Bodnar is the choice

As to academics being better prepared to lead a university than those without, seems to me that Royce Engstrom had a PhD and lots of experience on different faculty committees to learn the university system inside and out. And that worked out well. (When is someone going to invent a sarcasm font?)
What is needed is less the doctorate and more the problem solver. Not saying that they are exclusive, but PhDs and lawyers seem to suffer from the same ego affliction that if you are really good in one area, then you must be good at everything.
Probably more than anything, his experience of being a Green Beret will help him the most as he deals with the warring tribal factions of the different parts of a university. When not conducting research, they do seem to be backstabbing and whining a lot.

For those unfamiliar with military credentials, specifically Army:

- Bodnar's are truly exceptional and exclusive. If he had stayed in service - he clearly had multiple star potential, without question.

I think he'll lead effectively in Missoula for a very long time.

Wrong, how many people do you know that have PhD's. My wife has one and in no way is she like royce.
When people start generalizing, things usually go south.

That is what I was looking at. Graduated first in his West Point class in 2001, commanded a rifle platoon in Mosul 2003 to 2005 (probably some of the most intense combat of the second Iraq War) to becoming and commanding a detachment of Green Berets from 2006 to 2008. This was all done before he was 28 years old. Bodnar is first and foremost a leader which we have been missing.

Keila (#gwenfriend) on the attack already. She will be covering the upcoming forum...so there's that.

She seemed to like Engstrom just fine. Go figure.

can't believe they hired a firm to find this guy and that firm didn't due it's due diligence (probably a short internet search) and make sure this was cleared up before any interview. it all kind of fits in with the easy master's degrees that sound a lot more grand than they are... but that is the way the world goes round. company- and military- supported resume exaggerations are the way to get ahead.

also, the problem is that nobody does anything to stop this trend. i once reviewed a guy's cv for tenure, and it had over thirty falsehoods or big exaggerations in it, including claiming titles he didn't have, grants he claimed to co-author but didn't, etc... it was just one lie after another. he got away with it because his fake claims caused the procedure to be abrogated, so he petitioned it and got to re-apply the next year with a more honest cv. why this allowed is beyond me - a guy who is going to lie thirty times on his cv is at his core a liar. not saying this is the case with bodnar, but bogus cv claims is what this 'exaggerate freely with no cost' society has resulted in. but i'm stepping on your toes by criticizing your boy, which is like criticizing the usa bumper sticker on your car.

I cant believe the establishment doesnt like the new guy coming in and shaking things up......who woulda thunk it?

Wake the fuck up

Conducted and published research on economic development in conflict areas.

Seth knows how to get an economy up and running in freaking Afghanistan, meanwhile Royce couldnt keep a formerly successful University above water in the Bitteroot Valley.

That sad story was a complete and utter fail, on so many levels. The headline states his corporate resume raises concerns, yet the HR dept at GE confirms his resume was factual. The hit continues with prof who attacks his resume from his experience at West Point, yet the story buries the fact that "Bodnar’s characterization of his time at West Point as an assistant professor is accurate and common practice for military officers serving on the U.S. Military Academy faculty."

The author of this Missoulian hit piece is likely worried that her slacker friends at the U are gonna find themselves ass first on the street if they don't step in line and get on Bodner's train. He'll weed out the dead weight that's been dragging the U down. He'll find people that have the interest of the U first.
