Bobby's Replacement..

And to think I told Bobby not to go to UNLV and over a few more beers he told me.......

If Bobby had not been in such a hurry he would have ended up at a far better position and had a chance to be good. Instead he did what he did and slowed his potential by being a bit greedy and in the end it cost him.

"in such a hurry"... To borrow a phrase, Poppycock. Hauck coached here what seven, eight, years? You want to say he got "greedy", did Dennehey and Glenn stay that long combined... No both bolted after just a couple years. The allure of greener pastures is what it is.

This is what Montana football has to live with;
1) If we have a successful coach, he gets much bigger offers & leaves after a few years.
2) Alternately if we have a unsuccessful coach, he won't leave until forced to.
The only exception to the above is if we hired a coach who might intentionally want to finish their career here. In which case Bobby Hauck might be the ideal choice as he is unlikely to want to make that jump again.

What's the risk? You buyout Bobby from his contract for $400K, you get a $30million dollar donation right into your budget.. does it matter where the coach is from if you're UNLV? It's not like this coach is going to be successful, no one ever succeeds at UNLV.
And it's not like you're replacing a successful coach with a high school coach. No worries there.

Bishop Gorman isn't your average high school, very successful, but also private..

To be fair, catholic schools can do whatever they want when it comes to "recruiting"
students for sports teams. That is one of the reasons they are so successful in Ca. :(

I think they believe that he can keep some Gorman kids in Vegas to play for UNLV. Look for Snoop Dogs son to play there next season ( not sure how much attention he is getting from bigger schools). They are an amazing Highschool program that sends several kids to major bcs schools each year. I believe they won the USA today national championship this year. If you think their football team is good their basketball program is even better.
AS others have said take the 30 million and the publicity and if it don't work you are right back were you started plus have some money in the bank.

Cordell Broadus has offers from: ASU, Baylor, Boise, Duke, Cal, FSU, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon St., Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Washington, and Wazzu
Why hasn't Montana offered him?

No it isn't. It's good to be sure, but it's not dominant the way the football team is. You might be thinking of Findlay Prep, who recruits nationally and doesn't compete for state championships in NV but is based in Henderson. I'm the athletic administrator at Canyon Springs High School and our public school non recruited kids play with Gorman every time we play them, which only happens at State for a multitude of reasons. They beat us by 12 in the title game last year. We won the title in 2011 beating the team that beat Gorman in the Semi's by 35. Their basketball team is good but not invincible the way their football team is.

Findlay Prep is legit! We have them at our place this year in February. Going to be interesting to see how we deal with a game like that so close to tournament time.

You should do some reading on this..

This isn't a first, North Texas hired a HS coach from Southlake Carroll, Todd Dodge, not too long ago. Didn't work out well.

Bishop Gorman isn't your average high school, very successful, but also private.. mostly (or wholly) owned by the people who run UFC.. they're giving UNLV $30million to hire this coach.
Gerry Faust didn't work out too well at Notre Dame, either.

Dennehy was HC for four years, Glenn three, Hauck seven. 4+3=7.

The only way we will keep a coach around is to:

1. Hire a really old coach; or
2. Move to the Mountain West Conference and hire a really old coach.

So Bobby gets kicked to the curb like a small dog, gets replaced by a High School coach, and now half of eGriz is lobbying for him to return here to coach...

Sounds about right.

Yeah about half. Alpha and I are on the other side.

Hire some guy from a six man football program in Montana instead!

Bobby and his bullies with an Engstrom OK? You are joking right?

Gone with the wind.
