bobby thinks players should be indentured servants

what i was actually hoping for when i posted this was some discussion of the pros and cons of the rule, from different angles. i obviously think that the players should be able to do what's best for themselves, since they are at best very-low-paid employees of the university. others of you seem to think what bobby thinks, because he's bobby and your hero, so he's never wrong, and he's always ready with the 'we thought he'd sit a year' cover-up line?

So you think college athletics should just be a free for all with no structure and everything goes? Great idea

when did i say that? gawd you people are gormless. i guess they didn't teach about satire in the 1800s.

Well your certainly no Mark Twain.

"you're certainly no mark twain" or "you are...." not "your". like i said, gormless, and many with 6th grade reading skills, at the most.

Ohhh, good burn. And I have an 8th grade education by the way....

How much is an interest free college education worth nowadays? I believe MasterCard would say “Priceless”.

I wouldn’t blame coaches refusing to release a starter. He might be a critical player that would hurt team structure. What ever happened to team loyalty? But, if a kid pushes the issue, he could be benched and no scholly.

If a coach leaves for a different job, should every player HE recruited be allowed to transfer with no penalty?

it depends on what kem says. if he doesn't agree with the decision making, he will quit supporting the griz, and the whole um sports program, including intramurals, will collapse. they just can't make it without his crucial $3 per year donation.

on a side note*** i was just called the "biggest troll ever". does that make me an average size human being?

too samuel clemens for y'all, i know, i know.

In keeping with Arrgg's intent that this should be a pro/con debate I do see a pro. The FCS has become absolutely boring. I mean when one team wins the championship 8 out of 10 years or so what sort of excitement does that bring. And really there are annually very few teams that are actually in the running for the trophy. Now I know that many are excited that the Griz seem to be emerging as one of those top teams again, but still the FCS has really become a very few haves and mostly have nots. So if the Power 5 raids these upper echelon teams maybe that brings some parity back to FCS. I mean really, look at the Griz 2020 schedule and how much excitement does that really bring you. Maybe its just a matter of winning games for you but other than about 3 games I don't see much challenge at all. Many of you don't care and we could play MT Tech 11 games a year with much the same outcome and a lot of travel savings. Me,not so much. It would be far more interesting if the FCS weren't so tilted to the upper echelon of teams - with so many with the proverbial hope rings eternal teams losing hope about 4 games into the season. Just another perspective. In baseball there are several levels of minor league teams that feed MLB. Of course those players do sign bonuses, move up, and get paid so there is that.

Many times (most of the time, often) when a coach leaves there is a buy out of the contract that remains so the school is at least partially compensated. I know this is waived at times and that athletic scholarships are on a yearly renewable basis.

Next year's schedule is what it is but reading details of Bobby's new contract I think is making incentives to create the scheduling you are asking for above.

ah, did i hurt your feelers by making a sarcastic joke about bawbby? ohhh, poor, poor proud pot smoker. everybody knows all the griz players should pledge an oath of loyalty to bobby, since he works so much harder at making them better football players than they do themselves.

Okay Coach Stitt, your “argh” account here on egriz was funny at first. Now you’re just obsessed. Time to move on. Will you be taking GJ with you again by the way?

when was "at first"? i've been on egriz about eight years longer than you. are you one of those multiple fake-namer types?

It was supposed to be a funny. The fact it went over your head now has me a little worried. You do you Stitt....errr...Argh.

Coaches are not players...except cat, milf-chasing coaches. They are players.

So only players are required to honor their commitments. Coaches can "Transfer" all over the place all they want. I am just asking.

It was made pretty clear in the title that players are indentured servants and coaches are employees.

Name an industry where those in charge or a position of earned authority are NOT treated differently than the employees.

I'm not suggesting it is correct, but coaches and players are not the same.

So a Football player is the employee of the head coach? Look, I dont know the correct answer to this problem, but there are obviously some issues that need fixed.

Not what I said. But, yes coaches are in a position of authority over players. They hire them. They can fire them. They can revoke their scholarships. They determine their playing time.

I agree system can be improved.

The commitment is in the form of a contract. Read and understand them, before you post stupid things.

What needs to be fixed?
