What if I am just a young guy who would gladly play you one-on-one any time you want for $100. You think you have the market cornered on opinions about Montana high school athletics? Your knowledge base amuses me, even for a Cat fan.

I was told directly by a Div.I assistant coach, who will remain unnamed, that this is a down year for Montana high school BB talent. Maybe these guys are good enough to play for the Cats, as their standards are always much lower.

Simmer down now. Are you sure the coach meant 2007 or was it this year 2006? Because to be honest not that I like to agree with Cat fans but the class of 2007 is by everything I've heard from people that know the best class to come out of Montana with possibly 4 to 5 guys going D-1 on the other side 2006 has had no one go D-1.

Griz roar you certainly are intitled to your opinion but seeing this is only your third post and you may be new to this board you might want to check out some of what has been said and who those 4 or 5 guys are that are D-1 prospects.

mslacat can correct me if I'm wrong but they are:
Selvig - Glendive, Howard - GFH, Edwards - Butte, Hurly - Anaconda, and maybe Tatarka - GFH, Gilder -Butte, and Brandt from Billings Central.

Also I don't think Tinkle would have offerd Howard if he did not think he could play at D-1 level. JMO please don't challenge me to one on one I am just an old guy who likes high school ball.

I could not let this one go! Either your Div.I assistant coach is was talking about 2006 class (the one that just finished), is an idiot, or more likely does not exist. Lets look at just the facts for a second. Can you name when lest time the state of Montana had at least two basketball athletes, in mid June before their senior year with multiple D-1 scholarship offers? Keep thinking, I could go back three years to come up with 2002 Dissly and Henkle, only Dissly only had one D-1 offer. so you have to go back even farther. Maybe five to seven years. If that is so how in your right mind can anyone who knows even a little about State of Montana high school basketball say this is a down year!

Now look at the more subjective aspects of rating this class. There is a possiblity that there is a third athlete with a D-1 offer on the table, that being Jeff Edwards. There are those on this board who have said that he has been offered by Utah State and I know he turned heads at the Bobcat camp last week. He is very weak offencively, but he is a defencive wiz, runs the floor and has outstanding hands and touch. Of the two players that have the solid offers on the table, Derek Selvig and Bobby Howard, most knowledable basketball are saying these two guy's are each better at this stage of the game then ANY Montana D-1 players currently playing anywhere, were when they were in High school! Afan listed the possible list of D-1 recruits and I would have to agree with all of them, and there could be more on the eastern side of the state.

The 2007 Montana high school basketball if anything is an "above average" Montana class. It has the potential to rank as a top 5 in the History of the state.

Whatever, Cat fan. You guys are great at touting all of the IA offers your recruits get after the fact. You are basically calling me a liar in quoting the assistant coach. I do not appreciate that. Move to Bozeman and stop mucking up Missoula. :finger:

Instead of calling me names, prove my facts wrong.

BTW I did not necessarily call you a liar, according to what I wrote, the alternates to you lying are: you could have misinterpreted what the assistant said to you or the assistant is not qualified to comment on the quality of Montana High school basketball. Only you know the answer to that.

I call your :finger: and raise you a :moon:

I doubt anyone really knows how any of these kids are going to do. Just like there are 1st round NBA draft picks that never play and late round picks who become superstars. That is what makes it all fun.

I'd have to agree with 'Mslacat' on this one; there hasn't been that much talent recently, at least not since the late sixties when Wetzel from Cut Bank and Ray Howard from Great Falls went to the Griz, & Willie Weeks from Wolf Point and Jack Gillespie from the Bison went to the Cats.

I can't say for certain who was the best, I saw all of them play at one time or another when in high school, but its' been pretty sparse since then; except for an occasional L. K., the Zanons, Doug Hashley from Big Sandy, etc. But three D-Is in one year is pretty good. One would think there'd be plenty more on the horizon.

This is definitely 'not' a down year considering the past forty or so. Especially since the main three being discussed haven't played their senior seasons as of yet.

Griz Roar I for one think you need to relax, you are new to this board and obviously do not understand. Mslacat though a Cat fan is a wealth of information that I for one appreciate and again he did not call you a liar maybe you should go back and read what he wrote before you attack him.

Good post Mslacat and please keep posting we may not cheer for the same teams but I do enjoy your insight and info.
