Bobby Hauck

We are not as dominant as we were 20 years ago during Bobby 1.0, but we are getting back there. And we are not comparing apples to apples, either. In 2005, Cal-Davis and Idaho didn't belong to The Big Sky--now they do and they are currently two of our conference's stronger teams. And 20 years ago, MSU's program was crumbling under Mike Kramer due to the drug ring run by a few of his players. While Coach Vigen also has had problems with all of the DUI's on his staff, he has weathered the storm and MSU is a more formidable opponent than it was after Mike was fired and Rob Ash took over.

Is Bobby perfect ? No--he can be a real prick. !!! That said, he inherited some of those hard edges from his dad Bob, who was a Marine ( See Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in " Full Metal Jacket." )

He inherited a mess from Coach Stitt--we had talented WR's like Sammy Akem and Samori Toure' but few O lineman. When we lost the so-called " Miracle in Missoula " in 2018, Bobby's first year back, we had a 272 lb starting RG that was a converted LB who was facing veteran MSU DT's that out weighed him by 15-20 pounds instead of vice versa. But Bobby steadily rebuilt our roster and after the Covid Year of 2020, Bobby led us to arguably our greatest regular-season win in program history, the 2021 upset of The Washington Huskies--the last time we beat UDUB was 1920,101 years earlier !!!

And after we had the 2023 title run, including the upset of NDSU in the semi's, and the loss to SDSU in Frisco, we had a rebuilding but still decent 2024, finishing @ 9-5.

Expertly using the transfer portal plus some of our high-school recruits like Liam Brown and a bigger, stronger, smarter Keali'i Ah Yat, we are now 6-0, and I think we are on the cusp of winning another NC, maybe this year. And that success flows from Bobby down through our excellent staff to our talented, hardworking, smart student athletes who excel both on the field, in the classroom, and in Missoula !!!

I don't like where we are, I love where we are !!! Several years ago while walking around the oval during Homecoming, I saw the bricks with names on them surrounding our grizzly bear and I started reading the names when I came across one brick inscribed with the names " Bobby and Stacey Hauck." When we play The Shi__y Kitties 😸 in Bozeman, but our team stays in Livingston and after the game, the team showers and leaves Bozeman immediately only to eat dinner in Butte, that isn't some contrived act--that's a UM alum that truly hates our in-state rival, that always badly wants to beat them, that diligently, methodically prepares his team to do so, that's University of Montana alumni Bobby Hauck !!!

I am damn glad he's our head coach, and I think before he retires, we win at least one more NC, maybe more !!! Some of us don't realize it right now, but we're in tall cotton. Ten to twenty years from now, we may not be so let's enjoy and appreciate this ride directed by Coach Bobby Hauck. !!!

Didn't Bobby then immediately take an NAIA QB and make him a RT? Shit happens. People switch positions all the time. That RG was one of the best players ever to don the Grizzly uniform and was not playing out of position.

The guard was one of the Sirmons, but he was a LB originally, he played his guts out to his credit, but the MSU DT's were just bigger and stronger, blew the play up, Westwood fumbled and the rest is, as the cliché goes, " history." ( If our G weighed 302 lbs instead of 272, with all else being equal, our goal line scoring attempt is probably successful instead of the game-ending fumble and we win the game.)

That LB guard did just fine clearing the way for Eastwood to score on the play that didn't count.

Perhaps running the exact same play twice in a row had more to do with it than what one guard did on said play.

Maybe, but our O line was undersized and got overpowered. And it probably wasn't either, or but both running the same play twice in a row and having an undersized O line that at times was overpowered by MSU's bigger, stronger DT's like Yates from Colstrip who from memory, was an outstanding, All Big Sky DT for MSU playing at 290-295 lbs.

When I travel to Missoula for home games, like BH, we make sure to never stop in Bozeman for food or gas.

NDSU has had 4 straight coach's keep the train moving.

If we hired Hauck NDSU would never win another NC

That's the difference. Your guy has had almost a quarter of a century of mediocre results and hadn't really sniffed a ring
Nonsense, hyperbole and if anything - Hauck fits the mold of. NDSU’s style of play. He likes to pound the rock and control the clock. He would win all day long with the resources NDSU has. Hauck just hasn’t had the recruiting success with his O lines that he did the first go around. He is in a much more competitive environment this time around. Also, he should have one natty under his belt. Got absolutely screwed over with a field that benefited a much slower opponent in the national championship game. Finally, if there is anything to criticize him over - it would be the mistake he made bringing his kid over to play for the Griz. A total distraction that did not help him build team chemistry.

again, I don't understand why people are taking this as insulting or negatively. Has he reached his height with this program was the question. This is a forum for discussion. This post doesn't mean that is what I believe or have the opinion of. I understand the value Bobby brings to the University, have very good childhood friends who played for him, played in the NFL and coach in the NFL who love him and Bobby has always been more than friendly.
Agreed 406…..nothing wrong with your original post. This forum is supposed to be about discussion. You posed a question in a constructive way. How bent out of shape many posters are getting about this is absurd.

It's the club! They don't want to discuss anything that is controversial and seems negative at all toward the Griz. It's a big love fest for them.😍

I have to agree with your and 406’s take. It’s a forum. There is ZERO chance the university goes a different direction. Hauck will be in place until he doesn’t want the job any longer. End of story. The post is no threat to him, especially at
Who misses Bob Stitt? Some Griz fans are just spoiled.
He had that cool little green hat. Kind of like a leprechaun on the sidelines. Sort of miss seeing that.

406, I read your original post and nothing more in this thread. Let me take a guess, you've been accused of being a "bubs" about 15 times already?

Let that be a lesson friend. Critical thinking just doesn't fly here.....
Wrong. The post is fine. The timing is dumb as fuc&.

If posted the day after a 1st round playoff exit - it would land better...right now it's a trolling flop and yes, typical of what we see from cat fans all the time here on eGriz.com.

I just want to clarify what you are saying 406
If Sac with their new coach beat NDSU Montana would fire Bobby??

Or you saying if North Dakota with a new coach beat NDSU and Griz lost to Portland state and EWU on back to back weekends, it would be because of the NDSU result and not that Montana lost to two bottom feeders that Hauck would be fired??
That’s a weird stretch you’re trying to make since I’ve only brought up Cignetti’s success. Apparently Indiana making the playoff last year and ranked #3 in the nation. You guys act like everyone wins at Indiana. You guys are wild.
