Love it, good article. Sounds like he likes where we're at.

On an unrelated note:

The one game that sticks with him the most, he said, was UM’s first-round playoff loss to Wofford in 2007. The Terriers ran the triple option to a 23-22 win in front of a stunned crowd. The Grizzlies had a chance to win it at the end, but Dan Carpenter’s 47-yard field goal attempt sailed wide.

“That was our best team,” Hauck said.

I get that there was "a lot of NFL talent" on that team, but a lot of those players were freshmen/sophomores who didn't really play, and I will go to my deathbed believing that 2007 team was one of the most overrated Griz teams of my lifetime. That entire season was a slog of underperformances, and the offense was downright bad for a lot of the year. We should have beaten Wofford, but it's likely Richmond or (especially) App State would've cleaned us up after that.

Seems like the fans aren't the only people that look back on that season with, IMO, some extremely maroon-tinted glasses.

This article states that groundbreaking for the indoor practice facility will be early next year. That is not what we have been hearing up to now. I have heard this summer from UM coaches in other sports. Has the date been pushed back?

I don't know for sure - but I do know there are other construction projects happening - steam plant upgrade, and the building of the new Montana Art Museum in front of the Adams center - that could be slowing things down, but that is just pure speculation on my part. According to this: https://gogriz.com/news/2022/1/31/g...indoor-practice-facility-in-home-stretch.aspx, it will be available for use in Spring of 2023.

Maybe Bobby will brag about how he put Zac Crews in his place, and for good measure let a handful of players run the recruiting of players. That ought to impress the donors.

Yeah, no is going to support a head coach who makes difficult decisions with best interests of his team in mind.

Better then him bragging about how he coddled one young kid who made a bad mistake while jeopardizing the team chemistry, and possibly chasing away a handful of possibly very impactful players. Sometimes tuff choices and personal sacrifices have to be made for the good of the team, which is the definition of teamwork.

Teamwork my ass. Astutegriz's post, if correct, hardly shows any 'teamwork' on the part of any of the 'handful of players."
"Anyway, here it is. Zac had an offer. Was told it was good but would be silent and delayed. Other schools continued to recruit him even after the Venmo. Zac stuck with UM. Signing day happened. The Kaimen article appeared months later. A small group approached the coach and said him or them. The coaches asked if they would meet him or mentor him. They declined. Offer gone. Other schools don't have scholarships right now."
Teamwork? HA! The only one showing the team spirit was Zac Crews, not the 'small group.' This reminds me of the confrontation John Wooden and Bill Walton had.

Bobby should have told the 'small group' what Wooden told Walton, “Well,” said the coach. “I like men who believe in things very strongly, who will stand up for what they believe and stick with it.” And then he added, “It’s been nice having you on our team, Bill. We’re going to miss you.”

Worst take ever. That team would beat every single team we’ve had since. Are you out of your mind? Honestly I’m probably taking that “underachieving” team (that was undefeated) over anyone. No one knew how to defend the Griz offense in 1995. This team could for damn sure.

You putting lots of NFL talent in quotes is so ignorant and disrespectful. They had like 10 NFL players on an FCS team. You don’t think that matters?

The 2008 and 2009 teams were both better, and I’d even put the 2011 team above them. They may have been the most talented Griz team on paper, but there’s a reason they were the #3 seed despite being undefeated. They had by far the easiest schedule of any team in the last 20+ years, and looked unimpressive for a lot of the year.

As for the NFL players, again, half of those 10 players were special teams players that year. (Not a dig at Carpenter, he was easily one of our most talented players on that team)

I’m not saying they were awful, or even mediocre, I’m just saying that calling them the best team of even just the Hauck era isn’t accurate, IMO. You’re welcome to your own opinion, though.
