Bobby at the Basketball game last night

BH is not coming into a successful program like he did the first time. He has a lot of work to do, and I support him. But, I'm not expecting too much next season, maybe even matching last season's record. We all need to sit back & let him know we support him, whatever the 2018 record is. He didn't have that at UNLV.

But Stitt was 7-4 and people said should have beaten the Cats and been in playoffs with that team ......so Bobby is inheriting a team that "should have been 8-3" so is getting a lot better team to start with than a typical new hire after firing. Anything less than a Cat win and playoffs will be a disappointing year in most eyes (otherwise why fired Stitt if 7-4/Cat losses/no playoffs is acceptable)

Yes - exactly. If Bobby hasn't convinced you that he's going to beat the Cats, you haven't been listening. I don't know if he's totally passionate about the rivalry or just understands how much it fires up fans when he plays on it, but he's pretty convincing. One playoff game will satisfy most the first year, but we better definitively #RTD by year 2 or people will be disappointed and very vocal about it.

Do you think Bobby’s inheriting a better or worse team than Stitt did?

Stitt inherited a team that had been ranked nos. 12 and 8 the two prior years, and, after making the playoffs and beating the Cats, and NDSU in regular season, took it to back-to-to seasons without making the playoffs (for the first time in 25 years or so), 2 losses in row to the Cats, and very low national rankings (think last fall was something like 35th).

Not making the playoffs and losing to the Cats, for the second year in the row, was the sin, not being 7-4. Making the playoffs would have saved the job. Beating the Cats would have relieved pressure put on Haslam/Stitt.

Worse. Stitt inherited a team that had been ranked 8th and 12th in the nation, and made the playoffs and beat the Cats in those 2 years.

Yep. This is 100% the right mind set.

The hatred for the cats is legit. I know from first hand experience. I was on the x-country team when I went to the university. We were stretching in front of the Adams center when Bobby walked by and said hello. He also asked us if we were visiting our neighbors over the hill to the east that weekend. We were. It was in early September. He told us that this was the first time that school year we were competing against the cats and to make sure that we beat them so they'd know we'd "own their ass all year long." Dude hates the cats so much he knows when every sport is competing against the cats.

I think the O-Line, QB, RBs and overall special teams are better.

The DL is probably a push.

I think the rest of the defense as a whole and WRs are worse (but promising as hell, and only because how do you compete with Henderson, Jones, and Roberts?).

Overall, it’s tough to say.

Ironically, beating the cats both years would have solved the 7-4 problem and the playoff problem.

Fair enough.

There are no sanctions anymore. Last year's team at 7-4 had the best record of any fbs or fcs team that fired its coach. That's not a tough program to "turn around" Hauck is a good manager. He's not going to change anything to the point of creating avoidable losses.

Which is to say, they’re close enough that we should judge the next three years just like we would have judged any coach based on performance.

If Bobby is the incredible coach everyone thinks he is, it shouldn’t be a problem.

....did not JMU coach turn around the program in a year..alpha male coach that players brought into
immediately ...so l would expect the same with Bobby!...getting players to play above their skill-set
is what makes a great teams..can't wait!

Yup. And Stitt would still be the coach had he beaten the Cats. I had noticed, in both years, what you just said. That's why I was vocal in saying, ahead of the Cat game last fall, that Haslam would not have the ability to renew Stitt if he didn't beat the Cats. Because boosters, and top boosters, wouldn't stand for it. I thought the Griz would beat the Cats, tho. And then in the playoffs, and then ending as a top 25 team.

I base most of my views on how good of coaches I believe Hauck and his staff are, and the likelihood that he will take care of weak spots and deficiencies that have become known only in the past several months. Talent will need to be shored up in places, but the talent level is not weak; in fact, some of it is very good.

Yep...agreed 100%...kind of why i asked the question... 8-) 8-)

Bobby needs to do the following
Year1- FTC
Year2- FTC and make the playoffs
Year 3 FTC and win more than one home playoff game

Should be doable. Especially since he will have first class ST play. Something that Stitt was still learning about in year 3.

I think he has to make the playoffs next year at a minimum. That’s the expectation and what it should be for next year. Whether we have the horses to do that I don’t know yet. O-line and secondary are question marks at this point. I also don’t totally know scheme yet to say how it will fit. However, the firing of Stitt sent the message that the expectation is not to do a rebuild. Hauck is expected to take the talent he has and make it win games. He’s done it here before and the hope is to do it again.

Don't necessarily agree. The message in the firing of Stitt is that you can't loss to the Cats and not make the playoffs in years 2 and 3.
