Never having QB1 play a whole season was an excuse. Being forced to start, what, seven different QBs in 3 seasons was an excuse. Being on scholarship restrictions was an excuse. Not being able to gain a yard on 3d or 4th and 1 all year is just bad luck. With that, I'm finished with trying to find consistency in peoples' evaluation of coaches.

Have fun, everyone! I'm back on the Swaggerwagon until this time in 2020!
Go Griz . . . uh, and Fight On!

Hw about Stitt's taking UM from nos.12 and 8 in the nation (with wins over Cats and playoffs), to nos.30 or 35 in nation with losses to Cats and no playoffs? Is that your idea of progress?

Same record this year. No ranking. Loss to Cats. No playoffs. All with a hand picked savior and his chosen one as QB.

Great progress.

So we are comparing year 1 of this coach with year 3 of the other?

Do you really want to compare stitts year 1 to haucks? That absolutely does not favor Hauck.

I think Hauck was equally responsible for the step back this year.

Not sure that 6-5 with no playoffs and a loss to MSU is much of a step back from 7-4 with no playoffs and a loss to MSU and 6-5 with no playoffs and a loss to MSU.

Yah and this year was the easiest schedule we’ve had in ages. I think a worse record against a significantly easier schedule is a step back. Remember we played 2 ranked teams and Washington last year. Not a crazy hard schedule but much much harder than this year.

CDA and basket summed it up well, with all the variables, just comparing records doesn't tell the entire story no matter which Stitt season you want to compare to Hauck. What you need to hope for is improvement from this year moving forward. Stitt did not see improvement each season, which is why he was let go after year 3.

I agree the schedule could have been more difficult, but it doesn't exactly make it easy based on the type of team you can put on the field. When you field a mediocre team, no schedule is "easy". There is zero proof to think that Hauck couldn't have had the Griz 7-4 last year and that Stitt could have done better than 6-5 this season.

Holy... you’re not even reading. You’re saying I’m making an argument that I’m not making. Let me try to make this simple for you.

The team took a step back this year. It’s that simple. You tried to argue we didn’t but we definitely did. The team by the end of the 2018 season is a worse team than the team at the end of the 2017 season. Again, record against SoS, sagarin rankings, etc. If you want to debate that point you are fighting a biased battle.

My argument was that I think Hauck was just as responsible for the step back as any other force. You haven’t tried to argue that

To RTD.

Progress under Stitt was mostly heard from yahoos on egriz. You weren't hearing it from ex-players like Kem and various others. Almost no ex players were positive about his progress, or even supporting him. Even though I generally supported Stitt and didn't diss him, you weren't hearing it from me either as time went on.

So... not trying to be a dick again... but this time next year if we’re lucky enough to go 6-5... will you and other “ex-players” still be talking about his progress?

But I don't think they took a step back as they did about what I thought they would. I was never sold that this was a 9 win playoff team. You can nitpick all you want about some spots in sagarin, but in the end, the last two seasons were pretty much the same. This coaching change wasn't really about what Hauck would do this season, it was about what Stitt did in 3 and what they hope Hauck can do by year 3.

Will they be able to use the "hard schedule" argument like you are using to compare the last 2? I know it was 6-5 again, but it was against a much more difficult schedule.

Stopped reading after your first sentence. You’re absolutely biased if you think this team is better than last years. Every analytic is going to argue against you. And at the end of the day the worse record against a worse schedule is an easy proof of concept.

I am done, but I if you want to split hairs over 2 non-playoff teams that were both the same type of mediocre, knock yourself out. Neither was a good team. One team won 7 games with 2 gimmies and the other won 6 with 1.

The team was better this year than it would have been under Stitt. That's the relevant comparison. Better qb, better safeties, team played harder and more physical. Interceptions went from 16 to 7. More yards per play. Less yards given up per play.

Every analytic doesn't argue against his argument. Played harder. Played more physical. Tackled better. Way fewer picks. Fewer turnovers. More yards per play. Fewer yards given up per play. More leads going into 4th quarter. Ha.

The fact that Stitt was in year 3 of his program and it was minimally better than what Hauck did in his first season. Hauck took a team that won 6 and 7 games with no playoffs the last 2 years and people are pissed that they all of a sudden didn't win 9 games. Stitt is gone. Hauck is not going to be compared to what Stitt did, he is going to be gauged on how this team progresses from this season just like Stitt was judges by how his team progressed from year to year. Hint, it didn't.

Umm Jensen and Sneed are almost identical statistically.

Basically only relavent difference is Sneed fumbled more and Jensen threw more picks. Both of those things can easily be attributed to the system/o lines they had. Sneed had to scramble more and thus fumbled more and Jensen threw the ball down field more and thus threw more interceptions. That is easily backed up by their YPA stat on throws, and running stats.

I don’t necessarily think the safeties were better but sure I will concede that just for you. You will have to concede the o line was way way way way worse this year. RB was worse.

You say basic little stats but the stats are all about the same and those are easily all influenced by the game at Washington. Take the outlier of facing A TOP 10 COLLEGE TEAM, and the stats aren’t even close
