Bleskin Stats

Cats lose next week and it is going to get ugly in in Bozo. You may see many of their fans folding apparel and placing it back in the cedar chest with moth balls. Time to start laying low again.
 
Bleskin did ok considering the ok he had. It is becoming more apparent the recent success the cats have had is more connected to DM than to Rob Ash. I hope to see DM back but when he does return I really doubt it will be the same DM we have seen in the past. That shoulder injury will hamper his play.

DM is to MSU what JJ is to UM......without those two players each team is just a fraction of the team they are with them. The one thing UM has going for it without JJ is a fantastic OL and a great group of running backs. But as we saw last year, without a 2nd string QB who can at least manage a game without making boneheaded mistakes we are 1 play away from being a .500 team. I don't know if TM is much better than SSH, but I know that BG looked better throwing the ball than SSH yesterday. We need someone to step up at the backup QB position. Hopefully we blow out a couple more teams over the next few games and we get a chance to see more of our backups. I think Portland state is going to be a more difficult test than NAU honestly. They dominated yesterday, and took CAL down to the wire just a couple of weeks ago. Im jacked for the next couple weeks! GO GRIZ!!!
 
@hm.grown, the Griz are far more versatile on offense than the cats. The cats have Kirk who is a bruising runner but they do not have an ol to open the holes for him. The SFA game clearly showed Kirk is not much of a threat on the outside. Johnson is a decent back but has a tendency to make horrible decisions. Their two best receivers are Bleskin and Flotkeotter ( my apologies to him if I slaughtered the spelling of his name) and I am not sure but it looked like Flokoetter left the SFA game holding his shoulder.
The Griz have talent at backup QB. Last year's qb performance was influenced by the fog hanging over the program. Although I do think there is a better backup than SSH in Gustafson.
 
The terrible O line didn't give Bleskin any time. The pocket collapsed almost as soon as he took the snap. There were times the O line didn't even get a hand on the defense rushing through. No quarterback can step back and throw accurate passes with that pressure. DM would have been running for his life in this game which I guess suits him to a degree....but not Bleskin.

I like both the Bleskin boys, good athletes, and Great Falls CMR products to boot. Wish we had them here. Our Griz program is getting out-hustled by the Cats in recruiting the golden triangle area. JMO.

I don't recall Bleskin being under that much pressure, but I agree, and was thinking during the game, that McGhee would have been scrambling--and likely making late throws and runs, and probably multiple big plays. Bleskin was credible, has potential, and will improve, but he isn't McGhee and never will be. The loss of McGhee is a huge blow to the Cats, in terms of abiity and play-making, as well as the confidence of the team.

Good kids. When you can successfully throw to your own brother in a college football game, your own second starting game of your career, well, that's a movie moment, isn't it? It would have been a nice "Montana" connection to have at UM.

Given the circumstances, I thought Jake Bleskin did a fine job, and given that his O-line didn't seem to be quite up to speed for the game, he perhaps did better than the score looks.

After all, 38 points is a winning score in most games. It was that other score, the 52 points, that Bleskin had nothing to do with, that was the problem. What happened? That had nothing to do with McGhee or Bleskin, but that was a real collapse.

I agreed with Bruce Wahlberg in his early prediction that the Cat's had finally pulled it together in the third quarter and were likely to pull out a win. It looked like what the Cats had looked like in their best winning form. And then ... they just fell apart. That didn't look like the Cats. That didn't even look like a team.

This is about where I line up too. That's not to say that I don't give Ash credit for improving the program, but as I've said before, I have thought all along that McGhee has been the straw that is stirring the drink (see Reggie Jackson). We'll see if the Cats can hold it together and find ways to win the tough games. SFA was not a good start.

While not disagreeing at all, it is possible that McGhee's absence impacted the confidence level and/or motivation of the team (both defense and offense) and resulted in the defense being on the field more than they would have been under McGhee. Several possible examples are whether McGhee would have avoided sacks, especially an important drive in the 4th quarter, or scrambled to make some plays that Bleskin didn't.

As was said before, when you are behind, you have to take some chances and that might have resulted in some poorer stats for him, especially the INT stat. I think he will be very good as he develops some experience.

The defense had a tough time stopping the run and I think that's going to be a problem for the Cats all year. When you aren't able to stop the run with your front 7 it makes it difficult on your DBs to focus on their jobs as well.

His interceptions were in the first Q, early in second Q, and 2 in late in 4th Q. I saw only 1 of the ones in the first half, and it was a bad throw. The 3rd interception was a bad throw/decision and on 3rd and 5, I believe. The 4th interception was just a desperation pass. He had some other bad throws and bad decisions, which could have been intercepted. The kid was credible, and I'm not dissing him, but his interceptions were not a good sign for the future. He appears to have only mediocre mobility. His brother is a very good receiver.
