Bison CB Smith

UNDSU's defense is better than any we've seen thus far, even without Smith, and they're well-coached. Coach Klimber will have them ready to go on Saturday.

Stitt isn't the slightest bit intimidated, however, and he know he's got a pretty decent defense, too.

Should be a fun match-up. See you in East Grand Forks for some tailgating at Whitey's!

Montana's gonna get yards throwing the football no matter who plays corner.

I think the primary question is whether we can run the ball effectively. If we can, we'll be in good shape.

All Bison articles and fans seem to think that having Smith back will drastically change the way this game goes....I think it could too, but not the way NDSU is spinning it.

This guy doesnt appear to be anywhere close to healthy. To even further the problem its a KNEE issue and he's a corner. I think him trying to match up with Jones or Hendo would strain the hell out of that knee. I think going after this dude early and often could be more of a benefit for the Griz than most are leading to.

With him on Jones and their mighty mouse dude on the other side covering a down the field jump baller like Hendo.... I love what this weekends passing game has the potential to do!!!! What say you griz nation?
Where have you heard that he won't be anywhere close to healthy? Like most of you have pointed out Champion (#5) was burned many times in the first game. If you don't think NDSU having their best cover corner (and 1st team all-conference player) back will help things, I don't know what to tell you. Having said that, Montana's receivers are most likely the best NDSU has seen all season, and having Smith back doesn't mean they will be shut down. I don't think any NDSU fan thinks they will be shut down, but slowing them down a bit could be the difference NDSU needs to have a different result than the first game of the year.

Could be. But, we have seen drastic improvement in play or play calling involving our inside receivers...We now have 4, maybe 5 receivers to match against your best corner. Our receivers overall > your secondary overall. We will win this match-up. The real question is can our defense manage your running game?
I don't doubt at all that if Gustafson has time, he will pick apart NDSU's defense. I don't think it is a guarantee that he will get time though, so the stats may not necessarily reflect the improvement in play/play calling by your receivers.
He will have as much or more time than he did in the first game. We have the worst OL at Montana in the last 18 years and still got it done in August.

This Montana team is very average on talent and depth and still got the W against the Buffalos.

We are light years better than the first week of the season but we are still a very average team so that will keep this win in your house from being double digits.

As long as #5 is still starting, I like our chances to get the ball down the field. That guy was creamed corn in the first game.
I was almost feeling bad for that guy by the end of the game. On that last PI call on him when he was matched up against Roberts he looked on the verge of tears. I'm betting Brady is licking his chops.

Yeah, that guy was abused.

Alpha is going pro-Griz??? Has hell frozen over? I love the "we are an average team" but will still win at 4 time defending national champion NDSU. Love it!

Smith will make a difference if he is playing close to the level he is capable of, if he will be healthy enough on Saturday to do that is anyone's guess though. We must dominate the matchup between our WRs and their secondary so getting an all-conference cover guy back could help NDSU a ton.

If he is back (and playing well) it will be up to the slot guys to dominate their matchups.

If NDSU blitzes a lot, the Griz will have to go to slant passes across the middle, much like the Patriots like to do. I know this is SOP vs. the blitz, but BG will have to lower his sights. His problem is overthrowing on short passes.

Now you fuckers should be worried

Everyone knows that Jones and Henderson are the best 1-2 Wide Receivers in the FCS, but I think that Ben Roberts gets lost in the mix. This guy is good and catches damn-near everything thrown to him. It'll be nice having Ben on the field along side Jones and Henderson.
I am and have been a huge Ben Roberts fan. Story is too good not to like.

If they think they are going to move Champion in because he's a better nickel to cover a slot receiver....He's going to have a longer day than in August. Roberts and Horner will eat him up.
