BigSky getting Shat on Again. Worst Conference for NCAAs?

What I am saying is that the BSC isn't very good currently. Officiating could be part of the problem, but the BSC just doesn't have a ton of talent. Cats were getting boat raced today no matter the quality of the BSC officials during the season.

No arguments from me that the bsc is down. But that doesn’t change the fact I’m making. The bsc has been good and still got boatraced in the tournament (see many of the GRIZ and Weebs teams), and that will continue to happen until the games are officiated in a manner resembling the same sport as what’s played in the tournament, whether the bsc is very good or very bad in a particular year.

I agree with you. The big sky calls waaaaaayyyy too many touch fouls and then we get out-physicaled when we play outside the conference, especially in the tourney.

Celtic cat made this post on BN last week...we aren't exactly in great company in terms of leagues here.

I've thought throughout the year(s) that there seems to be a lot of fouls called in the Big Sky. As far as I know there isn't an easy way to find this data - you can find fouls per team but you'd have to manually compile that data and then figure it out by conference and I just didn't have the energy or time. Well I found a fast easy way to get this data this morning and here are the rankings based on average fouls called per game per team, and then averaging those averages by conference (there are 32 D1 conferences):

#1 WAC 18.93 (have fun SUU)
#2 MEAC 18.45
#3 Southland 18.37
#4 SWAC 18.1
#5 Big Sky 18.01

Those are the only 5 conferences that are above 18 fouls per game. The ACC calls the fewest, 15.25 fouls per game.

Just something to chew on.

Not surprising to see that the lower conferences in regions get the worst officials.

Cat women down 20-0 at end of first quarter, on 0 for 20 shooting. 0-23 now. 57-14 with 4.5 to go in 3d.

78-37 final. Cats shot 23% and 17%. Rebounds were 56-34, Stanford.

The South Carolina Gamecocks scored the first 20 points and never looked back en route to a 79-21 NCAA tournament first-round victory over Howard, in women's hoops.

And it will continue to happen every year until the bsc (#bsc) begins to officiate their games like every other conference in America.

I saw 2 refs doing NCAA March Madness games this year that have been doing BSC games for years, including one who worked multiple games in Missoula this year. Probably the same refs you are are/have complained about. Quit blaming the refs. That is the lamest thing to complain about.

Uh, the problem isn't the individual official. That has been made abundantly clear to the knowledgeable.

One of the refs I am talking about, received the most grief of any ref in Missoula this year (justifiably to some extent). He even ejected a griz fan from the front row, which I have never seen in 35 year of watching Griz hoops, so my point is:THE most controversial ref in Msla this year, that most fans probably think "sucks" and complained about, is actually the most prominent ref nation-wide. Ppl in EVEVRY league and every fan-base bitch about the refs. I just think that is a lame thing to bitch about.

So, did any team in the NCAA tournament get beat worse than both of the Cat teams? IIRC the men got beat by about 35 points and the women got more than doubled.

The football team was "more than" tripled by NDSU.

And all three of those teams advanced farther in their respective tournaments than did the Griz, so nothing to get all puffed up about.
