Big Sky-Who Knew? More Than You Think

Driving around the other day and I had ESPN on the radio. Out of the blue two well know commentators start talking about the Big Sky conference. I only caught bits of the conversation but it went from basketball to football. One commentator said "yea the greatest college football game I ever went to was Montana-Montana State game at Montana" . They were pretty pumped up about the Big Sky.

I will say that when I lived in the south, most people didn't really know what the Big Sky was. But when I wore any of my EWU gear a lot of people knew who Eastern Washington was.

Are you talking southern Washington? I’ve lived in Alabama 15 years now and wear montana gear almost daily and I’ve MAYBE had 5 people say something to me about knowing them and that’s cus they’re usually not from the south and are already a fan of another FCS team. 95% of the hundreds of people I’ve worked with never heard of montana football and most of the 5% that had heard of us and the FCS make me feel like I’m talking about my favorite Pop Warner team when I talk about Montana. Don’t get me started on the ones that think we’re NDSU. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “Aren’t you the guys that won all those championships in row.?” If I was a liar, I’d be like “Ya”, but I’m not so I get humbled every time. Needless to say, I’ve given up hope getting any respect for my football team from these folks. I’m sorry, I know you’ve won a championship since our last and I know you guys have that “unique” field but there’s no way average fans no more about y’all then us.

Lol nope, Louisiana specifically. Now, this was during EWU's height when they were either beating or losing competitive games to FBS teams so that might've had something to do with it.

Fair enough. TBH Montana hasn’t been the height of much anything since I moved down here except one season. Plus, I’m in Alabama where Bama fans don’t care much of anything outside SEC.

It was kinda similar where I was and if course a lot of "if it isn't the sec they suck" attitude. But there were also a lot of knowledgeable fans out there.

The environment at LSU games... That was just a whole new level. I've been to a lot of the former PAC 12 stadiums and a few rose bowls and nothing came close.

Bama lost to Vandy and one of the most dog shit OU teams in a generation this season.

That same Vandy team also lost to #5 Texas by 3 points and #7 Missouri by 3 in double OT. I’m more of a Bama hater then anybody but Vandy was not dog shit last year.
One of the best Vandy teams in awhile but it is still Vandy and Mizzou/Texas both still won their games. The dog shit comment was in reference to the 2024 Oklahoma Sooners who were terrible by their standards of competing for the playoffs.
