Big Sky Tourney Thread: Montana v. PSU

The refs are terrible...nice no call on the travel but the Griz have been called for a bunch of bs on offensive fouls.

Yeah these refs have been bad. We also should have played a lot better.

Welp, this sucks. This team just didn't have it down the stretch (last 2 games). It didn't seem like there was any urgency or fire. I feel bad for Kareem, but I honestly was expecting more from him tonight. Kept waiting for him to "take the game over" like we have all seen in the past. The kid was playing like he was exhausted.

Edit: This is were I say congrats to PSU.

Agreed. The refs sucked but the Griz did not play very well, especially on defense in the 2nd half. Us being so damn cold from outside hurt too... 1-10 from 3 point range. Ouch.

Tough way for Jamar's senior season to end. Makes me wonder if things would have been a bit different had we not lost so many post players for various reasons that would have likely contributed this year.... Coleman, Reader, Kovacevic, or Wiley. Hopefully Breunig will be as good as we all hope and the answer next season inside.

Refs sucked, in their defense, the GRIZ played terrible. Neither team deserved to win that game. For the sake of the conference, we need Weber State to make the Championship game. If they don't, it will be an embarrassing broadcast for tv.

I was expecting Wayne to be a little more fired up in postgame. He was actually mellow considering how badly the GRIZ played. As for the offseason, I hope every player will be as dedicated as Jordan Gregory will be. I really am looking forward to next season's SR class of Gregory, Weisner, Deshields, and Kemp. Also Martin Breunig will be a huge addition on the court next season. Dunn, Bradshaw, Lopez, Gfeller, Mueller are going to be more experienced. Each will be better next season. I'm hoping Andy Martin will have a huge off season.

It will be interesting to see who wins the battle for SF minutes. IF Weisner improves his perimeter defense, I hope he gets most the minutes. Gfeller, Emerson, and Lopez will all be in the mix as well. Personally, I love Weisner coming off the bench though.

Then there is always the ?, who will depart in the off season?

Finally, overall I feel this was a disappointing season. At worse, I was expecting the GRIZ to make it to the conference semi finals. I hope every member returning next season remembers how bad it felt ending this season the way they did.

Here is to a better 2014/15 season.

Are there any redshirts to be excited about? Also, what are your thoughts on Bradshaw for next year? He seemed to be highly celebrated out of h.s., but didn't translate into anything this year... albeit a shortened one for him.

Its an embarrassing 1st round NCAA loss for whoever wins the Big Sky tourney, Weber included.

Bruenig does not have to be good, just being adequate will be an improvement

Agreed. Teams never had to worry about our 5 hurting them. Just keep their focus on our guards when they drive, and if they do dish it off to the 5 there's a good chance it'll get mishandled out of bounds or rammed into the bottom of the rim.

We also struggled with our 5s boxing out, on defense and offensively...basically every aspect of the game our 5s struggled with. For the returning 5s Kemp is really a 4 being forced to play a 5 but was the best rebounder and highest FG% of the bunch, but had very limited minutes and seemed to find himself on the bench quickly after a mistake. Martin obviously is the best for blocked shots but has a VERY bad habit of turning sideways instead of boxing out and also on defense comes down on players with his arms instead of going straight up too often which gets him in foul trouble quickly.

We don't need Breunig to be the next Qvale. We just need him to be adequate as you put it. Like I said I really wonder how this team would have been with any of the posts we lost recently... Hard not to wonder what could have been. Oh well, fingers crossed that Breunig is the answer to our troubles.
