Big Sky Refs

I thought the crew did a great job last night. However, I found out that they weren't a normal big sky officiating crew. Instead, the crew was comprised of all the #1 rated officials from each position from the prior season. Great to see we have a few solid officials in the league!

I thought they did an outstanding job. There was one blown call when Henderson ran out of bounds and came back in to make a catch. I thought the PI call in the end zone was also questionable, but it had no impact as the Griz were going to score anyways. I also didn't agree with overturning the Gustafson fumble. His arm was going forward when he was hit.

All in all, the biggest testament to the way the game was called was the players. Very few dumb penalties and both teams played like they were well coached.

The refs explained that Henderson was pushed out and came right back in... not a penalty.

The PI he was being held down low without a chance to jump... a call that if NDS was on Offense most Bison would want called.

With the Gus fumble, I believe it was a fumble but I always have issues when the whistle gets blown. To me that is the end of the play no matter what.
Because if a Bison takes off running and a Griz player hammers him there is an issue with a unsportsman like penalty for a late hit after the whistle. IE when does the play end?

BTW... For the first game of the college season both teams played VERY VERY Well. Hats off to the Bison, they are very good and someone is going to have to beat them in the playoffs which will be no easy task.
In a perfect world the red headed sisters to the east of Missoula will get sent to ND for a first round playoff game... THAT A$$ Kicking WOULD BE FUN TO WATCH!

The best thing to be said about an officiating crew is...well, you don't remember them which was the case Saturday. I thought it was an extremely penalty free game for a season opener which says a lot about both teams preparation.

An eligible receiver who has been out of bounds prior to or during a pass, even if he has re-established himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands

But there is an exception, which seemed to be applicable:

Exception: If an eligible receiver is forced out of bounds by a foul of the defender, including illegal contact, defensive holding, or defensive pass interference, he will become eligible to legally touch the pass as soon as he re-establishes himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands

They did well, this week. BSC refs are legendary in ineptness. memory has a bad call in the NE corner of WGS which cost EWU the game(either a Kramer team, or just before). The automatic review thing is a Godsend.

So My recording shut off the last 3 or so plays of the game. When they were down on the goal line did the refs stop play when, Counts I think, came running into the field late and dropped his mouth guard?

That was Nguyen and yes they did, but only to give NDSU the chance to substitute.

They confused me a few times. On the Henderson catch, they explained that it was a completed pass but the receiver caught the ball out of bounds.....that would mean an incomplete pass right????

They reviewed the play and determined he got his foot down in-bounds

Right, but the refs said he was out of bounds in the first place. You can catch the ball out of bounds but it can't be a completed pass...once it was reviewed then it was a completed pass....semantics I guess

Wasn't that Jones?

Yes, Jones. Great catch and toe tap (altho I didn't see how he got his toe down). I thought it was a catch in real time too.

From the north endzone it was virtually impossible to see if he got a foot in. Most people around me, including myself, were shocked it got overturned. Then I saw the play from my dvr later....what an unbelievable job of Jones to get his toe down inbounds. Complete stud.
