Big Sky Refs News

I was watching this game on Saturday night. The catch was made at the two and they ruled that he was in bounds but got out of bounds after the catch. The pictures they showed on TV obstructed the view of his feet and so I felt like, after the review, they said his feet didn't hit the ground and his shoulder was in bounds as he hit the ground with 11 seconds left. After the review, they added one more second, but if he was in bounds by the review, his shoulder was in bounds when it hit the ground and he was down there so then the clock should have stopped to move the chains only, but they basically got a time out on the review to get the play call straight and ran it in form there.

The FCS needs to have more camera angles on reviews or there just isn't any reason to have a review.

Either way, this whole thing was a shit show and it just feels like ever since the coach called out the Big Sky for all the penalties they were getting called for, Sac State has had the officiating go their way ever since.

The most charitable interpretation you could have for this instance is that they were so keyed into making sure the shoulder was in bounds before he rolled out that they just completely missed the right foot. We don't know what angles they had, but it's not a stretch given the history of that spot of the field that they STILL don't have an angle down the sideline. If you're not looking for the foot from the broadcast angle, I can see how they'd miss it, but the problem is that they should have been looking for everything and anything.

Just a bad look for the conference again.

I watched the game too. Griz in Texas pretty well nails it, as do you. Combination of some obvious mistakes and obvious equipment shortcomings.

First of all, none of the TV angles showed his foot down like the photograph in the article does. That photo gives information which wasn't available. So we/they are looking at where his body touches. That aspect appears correct. His shoulder appears in bounds. So, apparently it is a catch.

However, there can't be a clock stoppage due to the receiver being out of bounds. The receiver can't be lying on his back and then have his body roll out of bounds since lying on his back he was already DOWN in bounds. Sac State had no time outs and needed a touchdown. Theoretically the clock should have started immediately.

In my opinion it was legit for the refs to stop and review the play. Then it was legit for whomever did the review to uphold the catch since there was no clear TV evidence to the contrary. Simply crappy views from afar to review showing nothing conclusive. In essence it became a very valuable free time out for Sac State though a legitimate reason for stoppage.

However, the Line Judge sure as hell should have seen the foot touching out of bounds (as the photo clearly shows). Then stopping the clock is impossible for 'going out of bounds'. Adding an extra second is a complete mystery as it only made sense if they were going to start the clock running again (which they didn't). Otherwise, the refs are saying "here the catch is made, there he goes out of bounds. Check the clock."

Overall more than one mistake was made. Though the only crucial one was by the Line Judge calling it a reception on their two yard line when evidently it wasn't a catch at all.

The clock stoppage was probably acceptable as the catch would have been a first down and the because of the obvious clulessness of the officials, the ball never got spotted to allow the clock to restart. Still, just another example of the awful officiating in the bsc

That's my quibble though. If ALL of those things you mentioned were true, and there was only one crucial mistake, IMO, the conference wouldn't have suspended the whole crew.

Don't be basic and seduced by the clawfoot bathtub and buy the spooky house that definitely had murders happen inside and is certainly haunted. 😜

The other theory could be that finally Worsterschill and the big sigh mucky mucks have learned that they need to appear to do something to appease the masses when everyone can see their eff-up, except apparently themselves....which would require a tiger changing its stripes or a leopard its spots...of which I am extremely doubtful.

Damn it, I love my claw foot bathtub. You can always scrub away most of the other unpleasantness, but you can't put a price on a really good soak in an oversized tub.

Did they suspend the entire crew, or just some of them? I didn't think they all got punished but I don't know. Yet, I can tell you if they have been suspended, the first thing they should do is go find a good claw foot tub and soak away their sorrows. Nothing beats it.

And everyone in the Griz Pick'em challenge, including me, who had Idaho in this game also got f*cked!!!! Maybe the Big Sky can't do the right thing but........

The Big Sky just fined Idaho's coach for apparently posting an image of the very call that the same Big Sky Conference suspended the referees for botching the call. 😂

Ah! My mistake! Re-reading the Big Sky release - it said multiple officials from the contest were suspended - so not all of them.

Agreed. At least the took some punitive action. Now they need to address the core issue on the front end, something they've always been unwilling to do. It's time to dump the entire pool and start over with qualified officials.
This is what I've been wondering: It used to be for most football weekends that all of the now former PAC 12 teams were playing six western states. That's rarely the case now. So, why aren't there a few more officials available in the West? Is Big Sky pay so uncompetitive that its getting outbid by the Frontier Conference?

Ford gets dinged for telling the truth. Pathetic. These coaches jobs are on the line, HC on down. To get shafted by incompetent refs should NEVER happen. These suspended refs should be suspended for at least a year, minimum. BSC Officials have been the butt of jokes for years, and the conference hasn't done shit, evidently. The comments on officials not only being incompetent, but crooked is spot-on, sadly in this day and age.

Buck up Buttercup. Maybe next time you’ll select the correct team rather than one which purports to win. Facts matter. Purporting too win doesn’t matter. I picked Sac State. Check the record, They got the win. No tears in my beer.

The trophy is almost within reach 😉
