Not surprised by Morrison though. I've been witness to some of his antics around Portland. He was also suspended after throwing a punch in the regular season finale against Montana two years ago.

someone may "go to town" on Morrison when he is doing time, and won't have weapon to defend himself. Pretty pathetic what happened. I know he hasn't been charged but it appears his family has arranged to pay Meagher's hospital bill already.

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico -- Two Portland State basketball players were freed from jail Wednesday after they told police they weren't part of a fight in the Mexican resort town.

Jeremiah Dominguez and Scott Morrison denied beating up a 23-year-old Michigan man late Friday. It was unclear if they would stay in Cabo San Lucas after being released or return to the United States.

Kyle Meagher said he didn't have a chance to identify his aggressors. He told police from his hospital bed that he only remembers being hit and losing consciousness.

Dominguez and Morrison were arrested three days after the fight.

Investigator Omar Barajas said the two were initially taken into custody for public drinking, but then one of Meagher's acquaintances said they may have been responsible for the fight. However, that acquaintance has since disappeared and never made a formal accusation.

Dominguez and Morrison played on the Vikings team that went a school-record 23-10, winning the Big Sky conference tournament to earn its first trip to the NCAA tournament. A No. 16 seed, Portland State lost to top-seeded Kansas in a first-round game.

Dominguez, the Big Sky's player of the year, averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 assists per game. Morrison, the league's defensive player of the year, averaged 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying the whole deal is shady in that there are stories out with conflicting facts.

It couldn't have been Morrison. We all know he's too soft to intitiate/fend off any form of physical contact. It was probably some other 7-foot tall goon. Andris Biedrens was in San Antonio.

But, there's always a possibility that they were throwing free T-shirts from a second floor balcony and Morrison was unable to box out Meagher to get one and it really made him angry.

I think you can find some conflicting reports each and every time these things hit the news. Best thing is to take a wait and see what happens in the legal system. If he did it, then he should be prosecuted, and you know a civil suit will follow.

The father of Portland State basketball player Scott Morrison said today that there's no merit to the accusations his son and a teammate faced in the beating of a man in Mexico.

"It's pretty simple. Nothing happened," Alex Morrison said from Vancouver, B.C., where Scott and a relative who'd come to his aid in Cabo San Lucas were expected to land later today. "What we do know -- and the only thing anybody knows -- is that Kyle Meagher got himself beat up."

Morrison and Dominguez have since been released from custody. A third teammate on the trip, Brian Curtis, was not implicated in the case and has been unavailable to comment since returning to Portland late Tuesday.

"Our focus right now is to get our son home safe and have some opportunity to sit down as a family and gather ourselves," said Alex Morrison, whose ex-wife's husband, Greg Granholm, flew to Cabo to help retrieve Morrison.

"Scott and Jeremiah didn't do anything, weren't involved in anything, weren't involved in any fight," Alex Morrison said. "They happened to be in Cabo. As far as I can tell, that's the only thing I can tell you that happened.

"People need to hear from them.

"I have spoken to people who visited (Meagher) in the hospital. We all feel sorry for Kyle, whatever happened to Kyle and whatever trouble he got himself into ... but we don't know who beat him up."

Both Scott Morrison and Dominguez have not returned messages throughout the day.

Portland State officials were dealing with conflicting reports.

"I'm not sure what to believe," said basketball coach Ken Bone, speaking from San Antonio. "I've heard from (assistant) Tyler Geving and he told me that he talked with Jeremiah last night and Jeremiah said, 'Coach, we got set up on this deal and it's a joke.'

"Like I told Tyler, 'Well, I've heard of those stories before, but it's just ... it's hard to believe both sides of it.' It's hard to believe that someone gets accused of something like that if there wasn't some (hard evidence). Both stories are really hard to believe. I don't know if it's somewhere in between or what. And maybe we'll never know. I have not talked to any of the players."

Geving said Dominguez would be "back in the States today. He's going to go hang out with his family and get away."

Although the athletic department is holding off releasing any official statements while it gathers more information, athletic director Torre Chisholm said, "The coaches have talked to the athletes and ... information is still changing fairly quickly. What if it turns out to be a case of mistaken identity? As it keeps changing, we're trying to figure out where everything is."

Well if anybody has been to Mexico on this board they know as I do that things down there don't run very smooth so hopefully everything will get sorted out and justice will be done right and done where it is needed.

PSU Press release

This is a press release courtesy of the Portland State Athletics Department

The Portland State Athletics Department will suspend Scott Morrison and Jeremiah Dominguez from the basketball team for their involvement in an incident in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico last week. The suspensions are temporary pending further investigation of the incident.

Both individuals have been released from jail and all charges have been dropped. In brief conversations that the Athletics Department has had with Scott and Jeremiah, they have maintained their innocence. They are not expected to be back in Portland until some time next week.

Given the location and circumstances of the incident, the Athletics Department has found it difficult to get accurate information. There are conflicting reports regarding the level of involvement of Scott Morrison and Jeremiah Dominguez, and we have not seen an official police report.

However, there is cause to believe that the two student-athletes have acted outside the reasonable standards of behavior established by our athletics program and are therefore suspended at this time.

I just heard a rerun of Lars Larson radio show for Wed. He has some of the same stories but although he is out of Portland he was on his way to and is in Israel this week.

Marines in the old days out of San Diego were always told to not go south of the border. Some did, however and turned up missing in action. Much safer and more predictable for marines in a war zone.

Return trip to the North has been known to be expensive.

I think I will wait a while for information on this one.

When the parties accused don't come out and make a statement within a reasonable amount of time, there is a very good possibility that they are indeed involved.

The fact that both Morrison and Dominguez haven't issued statements is reason for me to believe that they are responsible, or linked somehow. Either way, the suspension is PSU's only proper response.

I also find it a little suspicious that the step-father who actually made the trip down to Cabo hasn't said anything. We all know parents are pretty defensive when it comes to their children (as they should be). So you have to take the elder Morrison's statement with a grain of salt.

Also - BSC sports aren't exactly the "limelight". That target statement is pretty ridiculous. I guarantee that nobody in Cabo that night would "target" a couple of basketball players from Portland State. I'm sure it was your typical bar altercation that just escalated too far.

In my opinion, the murkier this story stays - the more likely Morrison & Dominguez were not only involved, but responsible for the beating.
