Big Sky MVP Dominguez arrested in Mexico

I doubt this is ever going to be resolved by the Mexican authorities. If I was Morrison I would demand a polygraph by the best polygraph expert there is and do it on live TV in Portland, and publish the results in The Oregonian. I know polygraphs are not permitted in court, but this is the court of public opinion, and his reputation is at stake. :twocents:

Considering the known facts I am going to give Morrison a pass until somebody comes up with some actual information.

Sounds like he should be the one collecting compensation.

It depends on which article you read. I still am wondering why he is suspended when he has no eligibility left.

Demand a polygraph? He's a senior in college. This isn't Damon Stoudamire. ;-)

It has nothing to do with being a Sr in college, it has to do with his reputation. That stays with you for life. If you are innocent you do everything you can to clear your name, then sue the people who falsley accused you. Let's see how this plays out. I wonder if you would be as adamant if this were a Griz or other BSC player. :twocents:

Isn't polygraph like the Galvanic Skin Response?..or in some way related. The last I heard, though some time ago, is that the GSR can not be used to convict, but it can be used to exonerate. Might be worth a try, if one can make it a convincing argument in defense of the individual, that is, nowadays. If DNA doesn't override such evidence.

"Anybody who knows me knows I would never hit anybody," Morrison said. "That's always been a knock on me that I'm not aggressive enough on the court, not to mention how passive I am off the court."

:tounge:

This coming from the kid that was suspended for throwing a punch??

And what's with people thinking that somebody would "target" Portland State basketball players? Trying to twist that into a motive is absolutely ridiculous.

This article is definitely biased. It only presents the story from Morrison's side. I'd be curious to see a similar interview from Meagher's point of view.

Reached late Wednesday in Lansing, Mich., with his mother at his side, Meagher spoke clearly and plainly despite his jaw injury, saying he was certain it was Morrison who hit him.

This is an editorial comment that the journalist should have known better than to use in this story. This only proves to me that the author has an angle.

I also am curious about the picture that Meagher mentioned. If there is hard evidence, that would explain why a settlement (which this article conveniently forgets to address) was reached so quickly.

Still too many questions. Morrison has a motive to lie about the story, Meagher doesn't. This will probably just be swept under the rug. Sounds to me like Meagher accepted a settlement and dropped charges.

Notice that none of Morrison's quotes actually say that he didn't do it. He talks about the fact that there are no charges, that they were shocked when they were detained, and that there was a misunderstanding.

If I were falsely accused, the first words out of my mouth are, "I didn't lay a finger on this guy." With lawyers involved, it's reasonable to think that they coached him up on what to talk about in this interview. The fact that there is no "I didn't do it" quote is suspicious.

Once again - this latest story is a persuasive article. The author adds a lot of commentary to make the reader think a certain way.

And here we go:

Kyle Meagher's side. He's got a pretty in depth story with lots of details. His story has a fluid time line, which explains the arrest not happening until late Sunday. He also points out that he had no clue that these two were college basketball players until after they were arrested. (I mean seriously, it's the Big Sky Conference.)

Here's the question that keeps coming to my head: Why would this guy want to falsely accuse somebody? He has no motive.

It says there are private investigators involved to pursue a civil case. And from the sounds of it - there are some pretty solid leads to follow.

It's like the Clemens/McNamee ordeal. At this point there isn't any hard evidence - but give it the smell test. Meagher's story is much more believable than Morrison's.

I guess my point is that it's pretty much a Mexican stand off (no pun intended) now with the he said / he said deal going on.

Of course I'm probably more adamant than if it were someone else in a different program/school.

I just think at this point Meagher is maybe a little more believable. Like I said, if I am Morrison I would do anything and everything to clear my name if I am innocent. Where the hell is Geraldo? j/k

three takes on this story:

1. one punch does not do that damage; there were multiple punches.

2. morrisons's denial sounds weak. if i didn't do it, i'm shouting that with indignation--not saying that as a basketball player i had a reputation for being timid.

3. if there were people at the scene there were cell phones at the scene, and where there are cell phones there are pictures. oh, yes, there will be pictures.

It sounds like there were plenty of witnesses -- he was breaking up a fight on what sounds like a crowded street.

And as this is a national news story, you'd think they would be coming out of the woodwork to make an I.D.

What a strange story this continues to be.

My guess is 99% of the potential witnesses we drunk, stoned, or a combination of the two. I also don't think the Justice system in Cabo is even a reasonable facsimile of what we have come to expect. In other words, don't expect El Columbo to come out of no where and solve this case.

This whole situation is why I vacation in Central American countries where you can stay away from the big tourist scene like Cabo. What a mess. Either way this whole thing is going to take away from PSU's landmark season. Sad.

Very true. :-(

This whole thing is getting in the way of good news, like this:

Cabo punching incident takes new twists

Others at the house with Scott Morrison and Jeremiah Dominguez give conflicting accounts

Saturday, April 05, 2008
JIM BESEDA, BOAZ HERZOG and JOSEPH ROSE The Oregonian Staff

Discrepancies and flaws emerged Friday on both sides of the case surrounding two Portland State basketball players who were arrested in connection with the beating of a Michigan man during spring break in Mexico.

In Oregon and Nevada, three women who stayed at the same house with Scott Morrison and Jeremiah Dominguez in Cabo San Lucas gave The Oregonian a different account of the whereabouts of those two players on the night in question than the version Morrison told Thursday.
