Big Sky conference Tournament is set

Big Sky Conference tournament is set, even though there are two more games left this monday and tuesday. Those two games really are meaningless when it comes to seeding.

Seeded as follows:

1. PSU bye
2. NAU bye

3 WSU vs 6 MSU
4 ISU vs 5 UM

Since MSU is 6th seed, they will play PSU in second round if Cats win.

Since WSU is 3rd seed, they will play NAU in second round if WSU wins.

ISU and UM can play either PSU or NAU.

Way PSU played this week, I would say Vikings will be heavy favorites to win the tournament.

Griz haven't beaten a team in the top 3 of the conference and can't say the odds are very good this time around. Griz will be playing a team that will certainly feel they should have won the last time in Pocatello, and will be looking for revenge. Griz are pretty much shell shocked after getting blown out big time and will be going into the game with there confidence possibly at a season low. But, ISU certainly won't be going into the game on a high either losing to NAU 76 - 53.

MSU got blown out by PSU and appear to have lost pretty badly to Northern Colorado. Doesn't really bode well for MSU's chances in the tournament.

I think the best chance for any other team other than PSU to win the conference is WSU or NAU. NAU I think would have the best odds to win the championship other than PSU.

Anyway, Good luck Griz.

the 2002 season certainly looked bad at the end of the regular season. Maybe the same kind of turnaround will happen again for the Griz and Griz sweep. In 2002, Griz were 13 - 14 in regular season, 7 - 7 in conference, also lost the last game of the regular season and also looked bad on the court. Just before tournament, Holst decided to let the players play if they played defense. Griz swept the tournament.
This year, Griz are 14 - 15, 8 - 8 in conference. Similar seasons indeed. But, Not sure if Wayne tinkle has that kind of incentive or bribe to get the players to perform better. I guess we will find out.

Was this the most lopsided defeat ever in UM men's hoops?

A real treat for the 5,000 plus who showed.

A quick glance at the media guide shows that this is the worst home loss since the Griz lost to Washington State 70-12 during the disappointing 1913-14 campaign...The Griz lost on the road that year 82-17 at Utah and also a home game to BYU 73-17-

Way worse loss than the memorable 92-54 loss to Kentucky in the NCAAs in 97 or 98...we lost to Oral Roberts 111-79 in 1971, which is the most points allowed at home.

Jeez...this makes me feel even worse----

This is way more embarrasing. It was SR night. We had 5k in attendance. This is a conference rivalry, which should be a matchup of 2 close to equal teams. The GRIZ made PSU look like Duke, NC, Memphis, UCLA, TN, Kansas tonight. Is PSU good? Yes very good, but that much better than the GRIZ, hell no. I am embarrassed to have backed this team all year, despite that I am moving forward and back to supporting them again.

PSU really impressed me

- Rebounding, amazing strength/power inside

- Great 3 point shooters

- Very quick in transition

- Excellent game planning

They're the real deal, if they play like they did last night I doubt anyone will beat them, hopefully they wont get a 15 or 16 seed if that happens, I can see those guys playing the spoiler in the tourneys.

ReMax, whatever team survives the Big Sky tourney will be a 16th seed, and maybe even in the playin game. They will get hammered and show how awful the Big Sky really is. The basketball in the Big Sky is pretty much unwatchable anymore, the league has fallen like PlayerReps credibility with other members of the board.

Strong feelings there. I haven't paid any attention to PSU's RPI, maybe someone can post that. They're a darn good team, playing how they did over this road trip (MSU and UM) they look like they could hang with anybody.

According to this site, http://teamrankings.com/ncb/, the BSC shakes down like this:

PSU 96
NAU 149
WSU 203
MSU 227
UM 233
ISU 260
NCU 274
EWU 286
Sac 335

PSU played a pretty challenging schedule including UCLA, Washington and Washington State. But, they lost to Colorado State (6-22 overall) and that will kill them when selection Sunday comes...Assuming they win the BSC Tourney of course-

There is absolutely no way that PSU gets a 16 seed if they win the conference tourney! Maybe a 14, probably a 15. There will be probably about 10 teams that PSU would be favored against in the big dance, Cornell who is already in, is one of them. I would not leave NAU, WSU, MSU, or UM out either. From what I was told, Tinkle felt like the game was out of reach early and played a lot of guys for a lot of minutes. A 52 point spread is embarrassing, but these guys have pride and will come to play. I am looking forward to watching ISU/UM play again as those were two very good games. But I will say it is on Strait and the guards shoulders. If they can work the ball inside to strait it will open up the three, but we have got to make the three ball otherwise it is good night UM.

Just because Montana stunk up the joint this year doesn't mean the Big Sky champ is bad.

Right now, if the top team in every conference won, PSU would be, at worst, a 15 seed, most likely a 14 seed. A few upsets in conference tourneys, and PSU could get as high as a 13 seed.

There are a number of conferences with one good team, and the rest are much lower rated. Depending how tourneys shake out, even NAU could end up a 15 seed if they won the tourney.

But you are right that overall, the Big Sky stinks this year. PSU is the only team that ranks in the top third, while PSU and NAU are the only in the top half (top 150, actually).

Sac St is one of the ten worst teams, and ISU, EWU and UNC join Sac St in the bottom 25%.

Montana and Montana State join the others in the bottom third.
When you have 67% of your teams in the bottom third of all D-I teams, you suck.

A big part of the problem is the pathetic scheduling most Big Sky teams have. Only three schools have OOC schedules rated in the top 200 - NAU, PSU and Montana St (all are in the top 150). NAU has the only Big Sky quality win (over a top 50 team).

Even though I will continue to question coaching development, I will predict the Griz are a much better team than we saw against PSU. Here's why. Strait was adjusting to the mask. Qvale was a big factor in Portland blocking shots up the middle and clogging it up isn't getting the playing time(sprained ankle). Which is where the downfall started. Inability to blockout. Thus countless rebounds allowed their shooters to be in a groove and stay there. Thus creating a domino effect for our shooters feeling they weren't allowed to miss. Adding too much pressure.

Perhaps if Tinkle was still looking at the end of the game he noticed that Graves could contribute. For those that left early missed a creditable showing by Zach. I know he turned ball over which led to a fastbreak the other way but at he at least showed some composure for not having been given an opportunity. I find it interesting that he not "good" enough to play for a mediocre team but was offered by Portland but did not visit since he knew that UofM was the place.
