Big Sky Conference tournament is set, even though there are two more games left this monday and tuesday. Those two games really are meaningless when it comes to seeding.
Seeded as follows:
1. PSU bye
2. NAU bye
3 WSU vs 6 MSU
4 ISU vs 5 UM
Since MSU is 6th seed, they will play PSU in second round if Cats win.
Since WSU is 3rd seed, they will play NAU in second round if WSU wins.
ISU and UM can play either PSU or NAU.
Way PSU played this week, I would say Vikings will be heavy favorites to win the tournament.
Griz haven't beaten a team in the top 3 of the conference and can't say the odds are very good this time around. Griz will be playing a team that will certainly feel they should have won the last time in Pocatello, and will be looking for revenge. Griz are pretty much shell shocked after getting blown out big time and will be going into the game with there confidence possibly at a season low. But, ISU certainly won't be going into the game on a high either losing to NAU 76 - 53.
MSU got blown out by PSU and appear to have lost pretty badly to Northern Colorado. Doesn't really bode well for MSU's chances in the tournament.
I think the best chance for any other team other than PSU to win the conference is WSU or NAU. NAU I think would have the best odds to win the championship other than PSU.
Anyway, Good luck Griz.
the 2002 season certainly looked bad at the end of the regular season. Maybe the same kind of turnaround will happen again for the Griz and Griz sweep. In 2002, Griz were 13 - 14 in regular season, 7 - 7 in conference, also lost the last game of the regular season and also looked bad on the court. Just before tournament, Holst decided to let the players play if they played defense. Griz swept the tournament.
This year, Griz are 14 - 15, 8 - 8 in conference. Similar seasons indeed. But, Not sure if Wayne tinkle has that kind of incentive or bribe to get the players to perform better. I guess we will find out.
